Daily Inspiration: Meet Rhianna Bowyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhianna Bowyer.

Hi Rhianna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I am a Kansas City native, and from an early age, I have been mesmerized by the KC art scene. With my interest in the law and art and their intersection in my community, I show my life’s story through my paintings and curate First Friday shows with my friends. I am a Mom and Wife and have spent the last four years developing my career as a paralegal – these different experiences inform and build on each other. While it can be challenging to balance, I am thankful for the opportunities they share.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Going back to school while starting in a new industry was a challenge, as it took years of working in the hospitality industry, attending classes, and part-timing at an office before I landed where I had set out to be. My mental and physical health stunted my creative opportunities for some years – and in the process of learning a new field and community, and by becoming vulnerable, I found success as an artist and a legal professional.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I am an oil portrait painter. My favorite works are fantastical feminine characters surrounded by abstraction. These pieces I have on show around the city in various venues. You can see my work online, and my work will be on display for First Friday this July and August at Starbucks in the Crossroads. I keep busy with my art-creating commissions of couples, family portraits, and pets, as well as illustration and some graphic design work for romance novels, and I am working on a graphic novel project.

What matters most to you?
People. My Family and Friends are my joy and reason to work, play and create.
