Today we’d like to introduce you to Neil Dean.
Hi neil, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Park Hill High School. I am a life long Chiefs and Royals fan! After college, I received my dental degree from UMKC School of Dentistry. I continued my dental training and earned my pediatric specialty certificate from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. I am board certified and have practiced Pediatric Dentistry for 20 years in Dallas, Texas. In 2022, I decided I wanted to open a practice in Independence to reconnect with family and friends and provide care for children in need. After lots of hard work, we opened the doors to KC Kids Dental in November of 2023. The reception we’ve received from the community has been incredible! Additionally, I have obtained priveleges to do surgery at Children’s Mercy Hospital—which I am very proud of. I am honored to be a part of the KC community and provide care for children who really need it. It is incredibly rewarding for me to use my skills and experience to help these children have a healthier smile!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been so many challenges along the way…too many to list. But I just try to stay positive and tackle one problem at a time. Doing hard things often produces the greatest reward. My team and I go home every night knowing that we’ve made a positive impact for our patients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a board certified pediatric dentist. I specialize in comprehensive dental care for children from birth to age 18. Our office loves providing routine care like cleanings and checkups, but we are also known for helping children with advanced dental needs like pain and infection. My team and I are able to do dental surgery to restore children’s teeth so they are happy and healthy.
The best part about my job is seeing the parents smiles when they see how beautiful we can make their child’s smile or how relieved they are when we get their child comfortable and out of pain.
It is also really fun to get to know the patients and their families over time and watch the patients grow up. I enjoy hearing what the kids are up to in school, the different milestones they are achieving, when they are going to get their driver’s license, etc..
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am a big fan of Church of the Resurrection here in Kansas City. My wife and I were married in the church and both of my girls were baptized there. I draw a lot of wisdom from their lead pastor, Adam Hamilton. I am also blessed with a loving a supportive family, including my parents and siblings. I am an avid guitar player and music lover so I get a lot of inspiration from that area.
