Daily Inspiration: Meet Mimi Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Carter.

Hi Mimi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello again and thank you so much for having me for yet another interview! My name is Mimi Carter. I am a Licensed Esthetician and natural born creative.

I’ve been a licensed esthetician for three years now. I’ve worked a few jobs in the industry along the way to fund my dream of being a solo esthetician in my own space. This happened for me very quickly, the same day that I got hired at Amazing Lash in 2023, was the same day that I received the keys to my new suite at the Noland Plaza Office. I was located in Independence, Missouri closer to where I lived and graduated beauty school. I learned a lot about myself as a growing esthetician during that time. I grew more confident in my skills and the experience that I was able to give to my clients. I found my flow, but always wanted more education and hands on experience. I’ve always strived to elevate myself and my brand, however that is extremely hard with limited funds. Despite that, I pressed through especially being that this was my full time job at the moment and you always have to invest in it on top of funding my daily personal life, with a child included, and now two whole kids!

I decided to take my first break last year in August 2025 and let the suite go. I recently just returned back to business after welcoming a new baby! He is so sweet and loving. I love being with my babies. However, I will unapologetically admit that I am the type of mom who has to get out of the house and work!

I am so grateful to be back doing what I love in a new area, new space, and even bigger opportunities! I was blessed with the opportunity to join the family at Total Bliss Massage & Float Therapy located in the Northland at 8532 N. Oak Trafficway Kansas City, Mo. — Not only was this right on time for me, my space was designed specifically for me and it is everything that I could dream or ask for. I remember praying for the things that I have now and it still feels unreal. I didn’t know how to feel returning back to my passion after having my baby. However, my mentor and the owner of Total Bliss Massage & Float Therapy, Chanda O’Neal – has been the biggest blessing to myself and family. I’ve known her since I was a year old and I am so honored that she saw me fit for this! Ahh, the beauty of full circle moments.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. It takes hard work to build consistent clientele. A lot of people are already set up with their favorite beautician, nail tech, esthetician, etc. So coming out of beauty school and going solo can be extremely difficult. I don’t think that beauty school students put this into perspective, until they are able to see first hand. However, it is not impossible and I hope I can inspire others to do just that if they see fit. I look forward to educating very soon.

Making someone feel comfortable enough to share what they don’t typically with others, building a strong bond/trust, and my client’s knowing that my hands and/or experience is something that you cannot get anywhere else is not an easy thing to do or learn. It really does have to be instilled in you. Not only that, it takes time and patience, easier said than done. Promoting myself and brand consistently has always been my thing. It does take a lot of focus, hard work, strategy, education, and creativity. Nothing about building a brand from the ground up comes easy. On the days that you don’t feel like it, is exactly when you are supposed to go the hardest, discipline matters!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in skincare treatments, full body waxing, and brow/lash styling. Firstly, I am most proud of myself for simply taking a break. That was close to one of the hardest things that I had to do when it comes to my brand. I couldn’t even cry about it, that’s how bad it hurt to have to sit down and take a break. When I closed my booking site, my clients would contact me directly for services, I would get so sad and contemplate this whole break thing. I am also extremely proud of myself for coming back with a renewed mind and spirit. This break was divine and I needed it for me to grow into who I need and will be.

What sets me apart from others is my overall passion for my career. It’s hard for you to say you know or know of me, without knowing what I do and that I love to do it. Humbly, my persistence and ambition speaks for itself.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is a peaceful, self-led life where I am financially stable, emotionally grounded, deeply connected to my purpose, and free to be soft without being unstable.
