Daily Inspiration: Meet Michael Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Anderson.

Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Rap.. I started expressing myself through rap when I was very young. I was living on 56th and Woodland at the time. My older brother LB would bring different types of tapes and CDs home for my siblings and I to listen to. I remember how excited LB was just to be able to introduce us to something before everyone else knew about it. That’s when I realized I had that music bone in me. I knew I wanted to hear my voice on a tape or a CD after seeing how music had such a powerful influence on my brother. So I started recording myself on the old radio, the one that had two cassette inserts, one left and one right. I would play an instrumental in the right slot and record myself rapping on a blank tape in the left slot. This was when rappers would release a single and they would put the single on the tape along with the instrumental. It was something about being able to say something and then hear yourself was very captivating for me.. That’s when I started but what made me believe I was good and could actually do it was again my oldest Brother LB. At this time I was a lot older, think I was about 13.

Well, every night LB would smoke weed with his friends at our house and once they were high they would turn on instrumentals and freestyle. One Night I decided to stay up past my bedtime and join in on the freestyle session. I rapped and LB and his friends went crazy lol according to them for me to be so young I was actually pretty good, that’s what I remember my brother saying “once this Lil N#### Start writing his raps, he gone be a problem for yall” when my older brother said that about me I was so happy he felt that way about me, I knew immediately that I wanted to be a rapper. Looking back on it makes me happier because I understand that he was validating me to his peers. So I continued to rap, at school at the park, wherever I went I rapped.

As I got older, I started writing raps and memorizing them so when it was time to freestyle I would have my rhymes remembered and would out rap most kids. Life went on, I dropped out of school went to job corps came out professionally recorded my first song at 17. My first studio experience was like taking your first hit of your drug of choice, I was hooked, So I never stopped recording. That’s how I got to where I’m at today, I NEVER STOPPED.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road and today I’m grateful for that reason alone. For me I’d have to say that being a kid but having to move like an adult was my main struggle.

I remember being hungry and my friends and I would do this thing called “hit up a meal”.

It’s when we would all go to the supermarket and steal a meal. Each person had to steal an ingredient for the meal. One person would steal ground beef, one person Chips and the other person Rotel Mix and Cheese e and we would have Rotel for the night. Lol. There were other things but this is a good example. Being hungry was definitely a struggle. Lol.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an Artist and a Creative. I do a lot of things like I just wrote a book so I guess I’ll be an author? But I specialize in RAP music, rap is what I’m known for. At the moment I’m most proud of my book “AstroBiggz ” coming soon and my album “Barbara’s Son ” Coming Soon as well. I’m proud of these because they remind me of how cool and blessed I am. Like I said to be able to hear me on a song is still what keeps me doing this and my book is something that I’ve been working on for years and I didn’t give up; so yea, I’m proud! What sets me apart from others is my passion for caring and me, me being me sets me apart. Lol.

What does success mean to you?
“SUCCESS is the progressive realization of a worthy goal.” -Earl Nightingale

With that being said, I’m successful everyday. As long as I’m pushing towards something, I’m making progress and I’m locked in, I’m Successful. See the world sees success as money, cars, clothes blah blah blah.. That’s too easy. Bringing something from your thoughts to existence is success for me.
