Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Bryde.
Hi Matt, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born to a couple hippies with hearts of gold whose faith and creativity inspire me to this day. The artist vibe flowed heavy and strong as the incense and patchouli that filled the air. My greatest childhood achievement was being as ornery as the day is long. An accomplishment I am still very proud of to this day. High school was great… except for the fact that they kicked me out. Looking back, I guess if had I attended more classes, I would have known how frowned upon missing class was. I didn’t make bad grades I just didn’t fit in. I found out quick just because I was sweet as Tupelo honey and have heart of gold didn’t make a hill of beans in the real world. I felt defeated, and with no skills to lean on, finding a job seemed nearly impossible. And just then the stars aligned. I met a master carpenter who saw potential in me and didn’t care about a diploma. Through my studies with him, I was blessed to find a creative outlet that showcased my talent as an artist with carpentry and home renovation. The transition from apprentice to business owner was a bumpy road, but several awards and high level showcase projects later my name has grown and grown. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the best and most creative people in the field. In all seriousness I owe everything Muse Home is to the people who built me up. Hundreds of kitchen remodels later, my passion still burns for seeing the big smiles after a job well done. Muse Home renovations change the whole vibe of the space, not only how it looks but how it feels.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From that story, you might think I had a fair amount of success early on…Wait it gets worse. During my days as a young carpenter, working like a farmer and partying like a rock star wasn’t exactly the formula for success as it turns out. My drinking habit spiraled until it was an all day everyday deal. I joke a lot but I’ll say this: it drove me to the point of complete spiritual, emotional, and physical bankruptcy. There are no words to describe what it’s like to be completely hopeless, but I can tell you it’s not the end of the road. In building a home or a person, rock bottom can be firm foundation! By the Grace of God, I haven’t had drink in 13 years and I’m shining like a new penny. To be humbled and to learn to rely on a loving power greater than myself was a lesson that opened all doors. Today I get chance to help others and run a successful business with my beautiful family and community. I’m bursting at the seams with gratitude, and so glad I found a way to build on my rock bottom.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do high end woodwork and home remodeling with an extremely personalized touch. I’ve done kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, outdoor spaces, you name it! The first thing that sets Muse Home apart is I am truly a master craftsman. With each project, I never compromise on the artistry or intimacy. I’m the actual person who’s there everyday and the immediate point of contact. That means no second tier salesmen or project managers. After collaborating with several designers in town I found the group (Orion Design) that I believed was definitively the best. This artistic synergy makes for projects that win awards and more importantly astound customers. I’m really grateful for my team. I only do about 10-15 projects ayer to keep quality at its highest. I’m as invested in the overall excellence of the remodel as if it were my own home. My passion and obsession for quality, mixed with my playful creativity leaves each space with a unique, unforgettable touch of greatness.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The people and community are amazing. Kansas City is the type of town where people know the value of hard work, but also know that it takes a village. I’m proud to be a piece of this growing community.
