Daily Inspiration: Meet Marcellus Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcellus Wilson.

Hi Marcellus, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born and raised in South Kansas City, pursuing music started out as a hobby and outlet where I could express myself through songs and instrumentals. Being a fan first made me study the craft and built an obsession to the point I started to practice over and over until I got better. Fast forward to now, Im doing local live shows and also started a merchandise brand called Ten Toes, representing the underdog with the the do it yourself mentality while also being resilient through life’s challenges and obstacles that is thrown our way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no, the creating aspect was always smooth and fun for me, but the business side I had to learn through trial and error. Having to understand how to grab people;s attention and interest was a learning experience for me, which took me longer to master. Live shows also, it took time to become a great performer, understanding which songs works best with the crowd, and working the stage.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I rap and produce, also the owner of the clothing brand Ten Toes. I’m known for my lyricism and instrumentals, followed up with having a social media presence. What I’m most proud of is my discography/catalog, and my clothing brand being that they both have a message behind them that can relate to the everyday dream chaser or individual that stands for something, which is also what sets me apart since my product and music has a purpose and deeper meaning to them, but can also be enjoyed on the surface level.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Reserved and creative. I was introverted and extroverted at times, it just depended on what time and where I was at. In my early ages I was into drawing heavily, was a fan of anime and video games that was abstract. I was a late 90s kid that got to experience what it was like before phones and technology took over, use to go outside alot and skateboard a lil and hoop with the homies in the neighborhood. Was into streetwear and skate brands early, and was into certain looks before they became a trend.
