Daily Inspiration: Meet Laura Ponce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Ponce.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was in a nasty car accident in the fall of 2007. Shortly thereafter I received bodywork and had acupuncture for the first time. The acupuncture helped me tremendously. I had always been interested in the healing arts, although my background was in marketing. By December of that year, I had written my admission essay to grad school for Chinese Medicine. I went to school in Santa Fe, NM and received a Masters in Oriental Medicine. I practiced in Albuquerque, NM, Surfside Beach, SC and now am practicing in Shawnee, KS. I developed a deep passion for helping people feel better and teaching what it truly means to be healthy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be honest, my career has been a relatively smooth road. School was fun for me and very interesting. I was fortunate to have been mentored by a very experienced practitioner at the first clinic I worked at fresh out of school. The information I received was priceless. I’ve continued learning along the way. Because I’ve practiced in various states, I’ve had to start all over, so to speak, several times in terms of building up my practice, reputation, etc. That’s tough but goes with the territory. I’ve had the pleasure of working with brilliant colleagues by my side and am so grateful for my experiences.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Kansas. The title is limiting, however, because I offer far more than acupuncture. I am also a classically trained Chinese medical herbalist, a certified nutrition coach, I provide cupping and a modality called gua sha, plus I offer lifestyle and dietary coaching. I treat a myriad of conditions, from allergies and pain, to women’s health and fertility, digestive issues, internal disease such as diabetes and hypertension, autoimmune conditions and much more. I’m known for diving in to find the root cause and (hopefully!) providing effective relief. I am proud of my knowledge, skill set intuition and effectiveness when it comes to providing care.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel that integrity is most important to my success. Being honest and straightforward with my patients, respecting their unique situations and time, and having good boundaries myself. Also of importance is the ability to listen well to patients and continue honing my diagnostic skills
