Daily Inspiration: Meet Kimberly Alfaro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Alfaro

Hi Kimberly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Good day, everyone!

Nice to meet you! I’m Kimberly Alfaro, a mother of threemultifaceted professional with expertise spanning across modeling, public speaking, cosmetology, education, and landscape design. My diverse career has allowed me to express my creativity in various ways while empowering others through beauty, style, and education.

My journey in the fashion and beauty industry began at just 14 when I signed with Hoffman Models International under Kim’s guidance. By 17, I had joined Wilhelmina Models, which catapulted me into incredible opportunities with major clothing brands and conventions, including the renowned Magic Fashion Convention and Ashti, an undisputed fashion and luxury products market leader Lebanon. I thrived in live event modeling, representing prestigious brands such as Valvoline, Tecate, and Grand Marnier at high-profile conventions, races, and entertainment venues. My career further expanded into commercial modeling, featuring in campaigns for Dignity Health, UFC, and various international brands. My voice-over work for the Missouri Lottery and collaborations with businesses like El Padrino illustrate my versatility as both a model and spokeswoman. Modeling has been more than a career—it’s a commitment to professionalism, self-care, and personal branding, lessons I continue to share with aspiring models and industry newcomers.

My passion for beauty and transformation led me to a flourishing career in cosmetology. With over 25 years of experience, I specialize in hair, makeup, nail artistry, and styling, working with top brands like OSMO Essence and GenLux magazine. As the Head Photography Stylist for KIDSLINE INC., I combined my expertise in beauty and creative direction to bring editorial visions to life. I’ve worked with renowned celebrity stylists, contributing to red carpet events, music videos, commercials, and photo shoots for high-profile clients. Whether it’s styling Playboy models for the Super Bowl or collaborating with industry icons like Sharon Gault and Priscilla Ono, I’ve honed my craft to deliver excellence in every aspect of beauty.

Education has always been a core value in my career. I take pride in mentoring and teaching young individuals about self-care, beauty, and professional development. As the former owner of BCB College of Cosmetology (formerly Adam & Eve College of Cosmetology), I modernized cosmetology education, ensuring students received real-world experience through conventions, portfolio-building opportunities, and state board preparation. My passion for teaching extended to Mitsu Sato Hair Academy, where I served as a substitute instructor, instilling industry knowledge and skills in the next generation of beauty professionals.

Beyond fashion and beauty, I have also cultivated my talent in landscape design. Bringing artistic vision to outdoor spaces, I apply my keen eye for aesthetics and functionality to create harmonious environments that enhance both beauty and livability. Whether designing lush gardens, elegant outdoor retreats, or functional landscapes, my work in this field is an extension of my creativity and dedication to enhancing people’s lives in multiple ways.

Today, I continue to offer personalized beauty services, including bridal and special event styling, health and wellness beauty workshops, and in-home services tailored for geriatric clients. My focus is on enhancing natural beauty, educating clients on self-care routines, and ensuring confidence in their everyday look.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The greatest hardship I’ve faced was losing my father—it was a moment that shook me deeply. However, I refuse to let challenges define me. Optimism is my foundation, and I have a husband who always supports me. Every dream, every goal—I don’t rely on luck; I prepare and make things happen. Each day, I prioritize self-care, waking up early to meditate and center myself. No matter what life throws my way, I face it with resilience, determination, and an unwavering belief that I am ready for anything.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Work has always been a part of my life. From a young age, my parents instilled in me the value of creating, hustling, and staying ahead because time is precious. I started in my dad’s dealership, washing cars and handling office work, spent time at the salvage yard, drove a tow truck as my first ride, and learned the ins and outs of recycling cars. I even became a leasing agent, janitor, and construction worker—whatever opportunity came my way, I took it. After school, I worked in my mom’s beauty salon and even gained experience in the restaurant and ice cream shop business. With so much to do, it never really felt like work—I simply enjoyed it.

That same work ethic drives me today. I juggle multiple roles and excel in all of them. Currently, I’m an advertising spokesmodel, a cosmetologist specializing in skin, hair, and nails, a cosmetology instructor, a substitute teacher for the Raytown district, and a garden designer for my landscaping company. Hard work isn’t just what I do—it’s who I am.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
If I were to list all the things I like, it would never end—unlike my dislikes, which are few but firm. I have little patience for crude, insolent, selfish, or dirty people and animals alike.

On the flip side, I appreciate most things that are colorful, anything practical, and details that are intricate without being tedious. I have a deep love for farm life and the outdoors, where simplicity meets beauty. Textures fascinate me—I love feeling and examining fabrics. Dressing up for no reason is a joy, and when the occasion calls for it, I embrace elegance, dressing exquisitely classy for big events.
