Today we’d like to introduce you to Kidron Harris.
Hi Kidron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always remember enjoying art. My dad is a musician and was recording songs when I was a kid and my mother and her family enjoyed drawing and making clothes, so being creative and making things feels like an integral part of life to me. I wasn’t really making art regularly until I started my freshman year though. At first I was doing things alone in a vacuum, just making things so my beats would be more likely to be listened to and I did that for around two years. Until my junior year, when I met my friend Ira and he had a vision I didn’t so I learned a lot about how to think about my art from the an outside perspective. More than music though, he put me in rooms I never would’ve thought about entering and I’ve done a DJ set (despite not being a DJ), I’ve worked booths at pop ups and show, I’ve gotten paid to perform out in Lawrence at The Bottleneck, and modeled in some of his clothing promotions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I move through life and I think I’m a very lucky person. I won’t say smooth but I know have the equipment necessary to navigate all terrain, so I never really harp on things too long.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am primarily a producer but I also rap, and do most of the other things to do with the music. I would say people know me for the songs I’ve produced for NellyVerse and TruGenie, but I’ve also had people tell me about my personal music too. I think what sets me apart is that I’m playing my own game to a certain degree and it just so happens to resonate with people anyway. Most beats nowadays are very simple and I can respect that but I don’t usually find enjoyment in making similar things. I’ve been drawing a lot recently and in lettering if the letter can’t stand on its own it doesn’t matter if it stands when it’s next to another. I feel that way about music as well.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Exploring Northeast with all our people. When I was a kid we’d be outside everyday, riding bikes, breaking windows, exploring abandoned buildings. When things were sweet and all I cared about was what I was getting from the corner store or where we would post up that day.
