Daily Inspiration: Meet Kelsey Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Park.

Hi Kelsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always enjoyed painting and creating things for people as a hobby. When I got married and planned everything for the wedding, I saw different signs for sale and thought, “I could make these; why would I pay for them?” So, to save money, I made our wedding signage and really enjoyed doing it. Fast forward to when we moved into our house, and I wanted to decorate. It was the same thing- everything was way over what we could afford then, so I made them. I loved creating things for our home that were unique to our story, and I loved getting to create things for other people along the way that was unique to their story. Whether it was writing a Bible verse, song lyric, wedding vows, or wedding signage, the thought that I could be a part of creating something to encourage them or remind them of a favorite memory was really exciting to me. Whenever I went to a craft fair or somewhere creative and saw other people’s artwork for sale, I always loved to look at their art, but I always thought I could make it. So, a couple of years ago, when I was still working full-time, I decided to leap! At first, I thought it could be a fun little side hustle gig creating custom designs for people. That is where the idea for Tangled Lines Design originally began. I created things for people and got a lot of really great feedback. After having my first daughter, though, I quit my full-time job and wanted to narrow my focus a little bit more from custom whatever you need to create and selling customizable artwork on prints, posters, or canvas that people could buy, with a custom design option as well. I am excited to see how the Lord can use this business to bless and encourage others!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! When I first had the idea, I didn’t know the first thing about running or owning a business or where to begin! I didn’t know about social media marketing, website creation, how vectorizing artwork, and the list could go on. I just knew that I wanted to make pretty artwork for people. Not being afraid to reach out to people who know how to do those things and asking them questions/learning from them, reading, and watching tutorials on how to do something have been crucial to getting where I am now. I still have so much to learn, but I’m so thankful that people are willing to help, and the resources I can access can help me grow as a digital artist and small business owner. There also never seems to be enough time. When I had a full-time job that had most of my attention and now being home with my daughter somehow appears like there is even less time! Figuring out a good schedule to learn and get work done seems like a never-ending battle. But I’m learning and trying to make it work!

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I create custom, handwritten artwork to sell as prints, posters, and canvases. Most of the artwork is things I’ve already created and offer as customizable options for people to order. They can change the font and background color to make them more unique to their space. I also offer a custom design option that allows people to describe the vision they want for their piece of artwork and what they want it to say, and I will handwrite it and design it for them and make it into a print, canvas, poster, or send them the digital copy. The handwritten aspect of my work, my attention to detail, and the custom design option I offer set me apart from other artists because I just haven’t seen much of that being offered. If you look on Etsy or other vendors, their “custom options” often mean you type what you want and pick a font from a list of fonts. I think the handwritten aspect that Tangled Lines offers takes it to the next level making it more personal and unique and hopefully something that can be cherished.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I always just loved when my family would get together to celebrate holidays or birthdays. It was exceptional to have everyone and enjoy a meal together.
