Today we’d like to introduce you to Kartez Marcel.
Hi Kartez, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a rapper, singer, songwriter. musician and audio engineer. I was inspired at a young age by family members who were in the music industry. I started on my journey as a songwriter and audio engineer at 15 when I built my first recording studio. I’ve been fortunate enough to have performed in many different places on many different stages. Being on tour with my group, teaching music, and creating and living with my gift allowed me to save money, and with that money, I’ve begun to invest in different businesses I own I lawn care companies, real estate, and just recently started a box trucking company.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all.
Many bumps and roadblocks along the way. Almost too many to list. I’ve lost money trying to invest in startups and ideas. I’ve not gotten picked for certain festivals and showcases that I was hopeful for. Grants and donation money, we’ve hoped to receive for our program have not come through.
Contracts for my hip hop program that were set to get started and tours that we were set to go on were canceled due to Covid. So many things.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a rapper it’s who I am and it’s what I do and what I’m known for mostly.
I’m most proud of how I’ve been able to perceiver through life’s challenges and still at 34 doing what I love to do with music. I’ve toured (with publicity) over 25 cities been on stage at some of the biggest festivals. I’m also very proud of my hip-hop/music programs.
I’ve been able to work with countless youth over a span of ten years or so teaching hip-hop and music I’m inspired by the youth and I hope that I’ve somehow made an impact on their lives.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I look at success in a few different ways. The most obvious is financial success being able to provide for your family etc. But also just doing what you love to do waking up and being satisfied with who you are and what you are doing no matter what that looks like to the world as long as you are happy that’s all that really matters.
