Daily Inspiration: Meet Justin Briggs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Briggs.

Hi Justin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At a point in my life wherein death or expression were my options, I chose to write a book rather than end my life. Since publication of “Insanity Comes To Mind: A Memoir On Mental Health”, my rollercoaster that I call life has continued to twist, turn, surprise, scare, and excite. I ride in my seat now well restrained and aware that by my correct choice to express myself rather than to submit allows me the view that keeps flying by.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s a rollercoaster…you call it a road, or life, or the existential crisis that is consciousness…but, no, nothing has been smooth. Easy does not exist in my theme park. Struggles are the reason you buy the admission ticket.

Struggles like; why am I still alive? What am I meant to do? Who am I supposed to be? Just getting to the point where I can ask myself these challenging questions honestly was a struggle.

The doctor spanks you to make you cry when you’re born if you aren’t crying already. You want to know why? If you’re not scared, you’re not alive.

The Struggle Theme Park is always open for admission until it isn’t, then I’ll know true peace. Until then, I’m gonna keep rolling with it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a writer, I coined the term prairie surreal to “classify” my first few pieces around 2010. Prairie surreal is only slightly more obscure as a term in the popular lexicon than my writing…at least to date.

Almost 15 years later, the more I come to learn of the ethos of surrealism, the longer I lay under the stars on the plains of Kansas, I only find the term exponentially more accurate.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Spite
