Daily Inspiration: Meet Julia Kapros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Kapros.

Hi Julia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Growing up with my father as an amazing photographer, I have had a love for cameras since I got my first little digital camera in elementary school. Whether it was buying my first video camcorder or digital camera, I knew that I wanted to spend my life showing people what I see.

My first passion is nature photography but living in Kansas City, I have taken the turn to the city life I see here. Loving the nightlife that I think depicts Kansas City and its people, I love to capture the DJs creating their music and people leaving all their dance moves on the floor.

I continue meeting amazing people when they ask me to take their photos. It has been the most gratifying way for me to release my creativity and meet more people than I would’ve been able to without photography.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing your business will always be a challenge. Growing this business as a young woman in the film and photography world, I think is an even greater challenge. In most events, I am if not the only female photographer out of ten photographers, but always the youngest.

I think getting my name out there has been the most challenging because there are a lot of successful photographers here in Kansas City. Showing what makes you different in the creative world will always be the most difficult challenge. I want to show the city that as a 22-year-old girl, I am able to create just as powerful images as the men.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love the nightlife here in Kansas City. There is so much energy and life once the night hits here on the weekends. My favorite setting to take photos here is definitely DJ shows. The way DJs create their music and light up a room full of people is magic and I think it needs to be captured.

I also really love individual creative shoots whether it’s with a professional model or just with a friend, there’s always something to create in the simplest settings. I think I am different than photographers in the area because of the variety I shoot. Whether it’s taking photos at a soccer game or having a dramatic photo shoot with full makeup changes, I love it all.

I think women especially are more comfortable with female photographers and I am your girl. I can party in the club but also get the photos that put a smile on people’s faces.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Growing up in Kansas City, I have loved to see its growth. People from around the country are starting to see us for what we are and I think that’s the coolest thing. My favorite part of Kansas City is its diverse group of people. I have met an abundance of foreigners who have moved here or are studying here and it has brought an immense knowledge of culture to my eyes.

My least favorite thing can be the size for sure. You definitely have to be aware that once you meet one person or group of people, you will most likely see them out every weekend. This can be a great thing or a bad thing depending on your relationships haha.
