Daily Inspiration: Meet Jordy Goff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordy Goff.

Jordy Goff

Hi Jordy, Thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always had a camera growing up, and in High School, I was that friend who would encourage you to dress up and go to a photoshoot. One of my first jobs was in a Photographer’s studio, where I cleaned and welcomed clients. I learned a lot then, and it inspired me to create my own work. I loved creating art, and documenting moments for people proved to be very rewarding to me. I went to the Art Institute, where being around like-minded artists widened my knowledge and creativity. After that, I jumped all the way into the photography world. Running my own photography business and having a team of photographers work with me was the end goal. My husband and I started Our Clique Photography in 2012 with that goal. It had to be a part-time venture initially as I grew my clientele. But a few years, a marriage, and 6 kids later, my photography business is thriving. I love the freedom to control my schedule with the assistance of my team and enjoy coaching others who share my passion.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Trying to make a living with a trade can take some work. You must get your name out and build your clientele to get far. I am very grateful for the customers who have helped me along the way. I still meet with many of them at least yearly to document their family’s growth. Another obstacle a photographer faces, unfortunately, can be other photographers. That is why I make it a point to share my knowledge when asked. Every photographer can have the same subject, editing style, and location and create different work. They will still book other clients because it is not only about the images you provide. It is also about who you vibe with. Not everyone will feel comfortable in front of your camera, which is ok. You want to stay true to yourself, and you will be successful and happy with your work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Photographer who creates rich, colorful images. I pride myself on making the session fun and easygoing. I want my family sessions to feel like you are creating memories playing with your children. I want my engagement sessions to feel like a date night, and when it is your wedding day, I will be celebrating right along with you! Over the years, I have tried to narrow down what kind of photography I specialize in. But, I most enjoy following a family through their most precious moments and documenting every step along their story. What sets me apart from others is that I understand what it is like to be busy and stressed. With 6 kids, planning something can be challenging, and not getting exactly what you expected. That is why I make the littles feel comfortable with me before I shove a camera in their face. I want the event to feel like a fun day out, not a sit, smile, please be good kind of experience.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I always recommend photography workshops to creatives. It is a great way to network, learn hands-on new poses and techniques, and even meet different models. These groups are organic ways to befriend other photographers with styles like yours. Unfortunately, just messaging some photographers and asking for tips doesn’t end the way you would hope. You can’t let that insentience get you down. There are just as many who are happy to share and help.
