Today we’d like to introduce you to Lifeleak Visuals.
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in rural Kansas and had the opportunity to take ONE elective in middle school – photojournalism. I jumped at the chance, and haven’t wanted to walk away from photography, since. I majored in Fine Art with an emphasis in photography at Emporia State University and graduated in 2016. Soon after, I began traveling the country to photograph boudoir for a national company. I shot between one to three weekends and anywhere from 10 to 50 clients each month. While that was invigorating for a while, and I gained heaps of experience in both posing and connecting with insecure subjects, eventually, traveling constantly took a toll. I walked away from that position in September of this year, and have been diving full force into my own business, Lifeleak Visuals. I specialize in not only boudoir but in encapsulating and expressing femininity through all of my images (or that’s the goal, anyway).
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While the drive to create has wavered here and there, my love for capturing memories through constructed photographs hasn’t. There were moments in college where I wasn’t sure that I should be pursuing a career in the art form that I loved most, in fear of diluting and dimming the light of what drew me to photography in the first place. There were many work trips where I didn’t think that the connections or paycheck was worth the anxiety of being away from my home and pets. In every scenario of struggle I’ve found myself in with regards to photography, the answer has never been to put down the camera – and I’m very proud of that.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in photography that is dedicated to the divine feminine, whether that is the role that a woman takes on as a mother, a lover, a goddess in her own skin, etc.
I am known for and most proud of my ability to cultivate a safe space for my clients to allow their insecurities to exist, be named, and to find love and appreciation for themselves through that experience. I also find that this sets me apart from many photographers, as I’m not just trying to get the shot – I’m creating an environment of inclusivity and validation.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success, for me, in regards to a session, is one where all parties walk away feeling valued and sunshiney, with some incredible images in a gallery when it’s all said and done.
