Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Ingrum.
Hi Jon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My family owns roller skating rinks in Colorado and after college I worked for them for a few years but then had the opportunity to purchase my first rink here in KCK. I then gradually over the coarse of the next 5 years acquired two more locations in Shawnee and Overland Park.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No it was a very rough road to start for the first 2 years leading up to Covid. We struggled basically operating on a very small budget making ends meet. We encountered many obstacles like countless roof leaks, skating floor with significant damage and very high operating costs and marginal room for error. Then covid hit and we were pretty much out of business but since we had minimal debt and operating costs, so we were able to limp through until the second location was purchased, then both locations started gaining traction and we were able to function without fear of making payroll or rent payments every month.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our job is very simple and that is to provide a fun, clean and safe environment for families, children and adults to enjoy the sport of roller skating. We are known for our school fundraisers, field trips, birthday packages, clean facilities, customer service and family friendly/ adult skating sessions. We are most proud of our relationship with the schools in the area. We give over $120,000 a year back to the local elementary schools and their PTAs in the Kansas side of the metro through our fundraising program.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
They can work with us by utilizing our fundraising programs for schools and churches. A lot of people also collaborate with us by doing photo shoots, documentary video shoots, roller derby bouts and roller hockey tournaments. They can support us by engaging with us on our social media outlets and supporting the events we host.
