Hi Joedi , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally started my business while planning my own wedding in 2008. It became very frustrating to talk to vendors and venues. I knew if I was having these issues, I couldn’t have been alone. So I took my I entrepreneurial upbringing and Kelis Monae Events(KME) was born. The name of my business comes from my daughter’s middle names. Ever since I could remember, I have been pretty creative. From the elaborate wedding of my dolls to helping others plan events. So starting my own business wasn’t a far reach.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not, life happens. I started my business with my heart and little funds. All while I worked a full time job and a family at home. There were a lot of late nights and early mornings but it was always worth it. Of course 2020 happened and the world along with events looked different. At that time I had to pivot to keep up. I started making masks and pressing shirts. I also became ordained to be able to officiate the now much smaller weddings. If life has taught me anything, it’s to always be able to pivot.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
KME is full service event planning business. I like to think we’re a “dot connector”. Our specialty? Being efficient and intentional. Rather that involves planning your special day to the minute and on budget. To making myself more than available to an engaged couple. I am most proud of the peace of mind that my clients have at the end of their event. To be able to provide them the opportunity to leave their event when they want; knowing that KME will handle the rest is the best feeling.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Bet on yourself, the pay off is always worth it. KME gives me peace of mind and has kinda served as therapy is some ways. While I may not be the biggest planner out there, I have never questioned my ability to provide. I am certain that confidence comes from betting on me.
