Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Mortimer.
Hi Hannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m from Kansas, and my basketball journey has taken me places I never could’ve imagined. I started at the junior college level, unsure of what was next but determined to make the most of every opportunity. That mindset led me to Wichita State, where I walked on, earned a scholarship, and played two years at the Division 1 level. It was a grind, but it taught me the power of perseverance and believing in myself even when no one else could see the vision.
After college, I joined the Harlem Globetrotters and traveled the world performing in packed arenas, spinning basketballs, and connecting with fans of all ages. Being a Globetrotter showed me just how far the game can take you — not just physically, but emotionally and culturally. It opened doors and gave me a deeper purpose: to use basketball as a bridge to connect, uplift, and inspire.
Today, I carry that same energy into everything I do. I travel the country with Hoopsbus, hosting events, speaking to young athletes, and sharing my story. I also work as a social media influencer, using my platform to celebrate the journey, highlight the grind, and motivate others, especially young women to chase their goals with confidence. Whether I’m training, performing, or creating content, I’m passionate about using the game to make an impact both online and in real life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve had multiple knee surgeries that tested me physically, mentally, and emotionally. Just when I was gaining momentum, I’d be sidelined again including another major knee surgery while I was at Wichita State. Coming back from those setbacks took everything: long hours in rehab, relentless patience, and a deep belief that I still had more to give. On top of that, I was a walk-on at WSU. Nothing was guaranteed I had to earn my spot, my scholarship, and the respect that comes with both. That experience pushed me to develop a strong mindset and a work ethic that still drives me today.
After college, stepping into the world as a female athlete came with a whole new set of challenges. I’ve had to fight to be taken seriously not just on the court, but as a creator, speaker, and entrepreneur. Being in male-dominated spaces means constantly proving your value. Navigating the ups and downs of social media, figuring out who I am outside of being an athlete, and working through personal struggles behind the scenes have all been part of the process. But every obstacle has shaped me made me stronger, more self-aware, and more determined to create a path that’s true to who I am.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work lives at the intersection of sports, storytelling, and community. I’m best known for my background as a former Harlem Globetrotter, but what I do now extends far beyond the court. I specialize in skill development for youth athletes, helping them improve their game while building confidence and mindset. I also work as a social media influencer and content creator partnering with brands, hosting events, and using my platform to inspire others through authenticity, humor, and heart.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to turn my story with all of its ups and downs into something that empowers others. Whether I’m performing at a basketball event, leading a training session, or connecting with people online, I do it with purpose.
What sets me apart is my versatility. I’m not just an athlete or a creator I’ve learned how to blend those worlds in a way that feels real and leaves people better than I found them. From spinning basketballs to speaking in schools, I bring a mix of skill, energy, and intention to everything I do.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to working with people who are aligned with creativity, community, and impact whether that’s through basketball events, brand partnerships, speaking opportunities, or content collaborations. You can reach out to me directly through my website at hannahmortimer.com, connect with me on social media @HanGotHandles, or email me at [email protected]. A great way to support a creator, athlete, or small local business is simply by visiting their social media pages, watching, liking, and commenting on their content — it makes a bigger difference than most people realize.
