Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Kaplanis.
Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hair has always been a part of my life. As a kid, my grandma styled mine any chance she got, and my mom—who did hair before she passed—planted the seed of inspiration in me. Growing up wasn’t easy. I struggled in school, and in my personal relationships, often feeling like I had to fight to find my place. But those struggles lit a fire in me. They pushed me to pour my energy into something meaningful—to use my passion for hair as a way to help people feel confident, cared for, and seen. Through every challenge, I kept learning and growing, and in early 2024, I opened the doors to KillerBuzz Creations—a dream built from resilience, love, and the belief that beauty can be healing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I decided to open my salon, I was pregnant—a time when most people would focus on slowing down. Instead, I pushed forward, knowing it meant balancing the challenges of building a business while preparing for motherhood. I didn’t have the security of maternity leave, insurance, or time off, but I had determination and the support of my husband, whose hard work helped me get the basics up and running. What started as a simple foundation has grown into a space I’m incredibly proud of. Watching how much has transformed in such a short time has been amazing—not just for me, but for my clients, who have enjoyed being part of the ride.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in men’s hair care and love transformations. I break down inspo pics into details that fit each client’s hair and lifestyle, and I enjoy coaching them on how to maintain their look at home. I value working with other talented professionals and always recommend someone I trust if it’s outside my expertise.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
There are salons that will build you, support you, and some that will tear you down. I started in a level based salon, then a fast paced salon then a more high end barbershop. It’s good to get a feel for each. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a salon home right away but sometimes the hard way leads you to brighter paths! Some have the clientele to immediately start up a studio out of school. Each time you start over, you do risk losing a percentage of clients, but the ones who are meant for you will follow!
