Daily Inspiration: Meet Gene Stewart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gene Stewart.

Hi Gene, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
26 years ago I graduated from UMKC with a Bachelors in Business Administration. I didn’t know what I wanted to do as a career but knew a degree could help in my journey. I quickly secured a job in IT Product Test with Accenture. Fast forward one year I found myself burnt out there. Simultaneously working IT and moonlighting fixing and upgrading homes I discovered working for myself compensated better than my corporate job. At the end of the first year I tendered my resignation and went full time remodeling. That was 26 years ago. I love working with the homeowners and gain satisfaction from work I do and kudos I get when a job is complete.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Over the past 26 years I have been blessed with enough work to run a crew of 4 for fiften years and the remainder I take on myself. The acope of work has changed over that time from full on kitchens and basements to simple fixes like handyman repairs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work I do is full of heart and soul. I pour all my artistic talent into creating unique places that satisfy the client. I do have a background in art which helps define my projects and make them unique. From paintings to wood sculptures I am creative and devoted to everything I do.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Communication seals the deal when dealing with homeowners. They like a game plan and an outline or scope of their project because they have to live through the hassle of having a tore apart home which nobody wants that. I try to follow precisely the goals set forth with their project. Sometimes things come up and a change is made so I try to make it a special change for them to ease the burden.

Pricing:

  • My pricing is lower than most contractors out there.
  • I try to be fair and just with respect to cost.
  • A comprehensive estimate is key in establishing an open relationship with the client.
