Daily Inspiration: Meet Gabby Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabby Moore.

Hi Gabby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I was creative in every aspect. Drawing, music, poetry, dance, etc. I focused on art in my early childhood and switched to music in my teen years. After graduating high school I decided to try out the military. After realizing it wasn’t for me, I went to an HBCU in Mississippi called Alcorn State University and played the drums. When I didn’t have enough money to return to school I knew I needed to do something with my life so I ordered a tattoo machine off Amazon and realized it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was. I did mobile tattoos for a few months before finding an apprenticeship and turning professional.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been smooth at all honestly. Dealing with racism in shops, lots of envy from those in the tattoo industry, and not having a lot of representation as a black woman/person in this industry can be difficult. But being able to create art for a living is second to none. It’s worth all of the battles I have had to face.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a well rounded tattoo artist. I do every kind of tattoo. But my passion is with realism. I do realistic pen drawings as well. I am proud of the fact that my art has improved exponentially in only a short amount of time. My soft shading and attention to detail can often times set me a part from others.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Find someone who is a good person and is willing to teach you. I was lucky to find the mentor that I have, but not many are that lucky. So if you do find someone, just sit quietly and take in all of the knowledge they have to give. Don’t be in such a hurry to move around The grass is the greenest where you water it.
