Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Armstrong
Hi Ethan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Ever since I was little I’ve been taking photos and been an artist in various ways, from drawing to painting to photography to writing. Growing up though, I had a difficult relationship at home, and a high school teacher of mine noticed and chose to try and impact my life in a more positive way. That teacher just so happened to be my video teacher, and because of that relationship I ended up becoming really passionate about video production. Fast forward, I eventually got away from that situation, actually lived with that teacher after I graduated for a couple months, and he helped me get on my feet and into a place where I could focus on building up myself as a person and pursuing my business as a videographer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. In fact, I feel that over the course of the last 8 years I have tripped, stumbled and fallen off the path in various ways, but around 2020 I really got a bit of a wake-up call that time was slipping away and I wasn’t fully pursuing my career the way I wanted to be. Financial struggles of just paying bills has been big, finding time outside of day jobs has been difficult as well. But I’ve been fortunate in the last 4 years that I’ve been able to work as a videographer full time, and really hone my craft in a way that I think has really set me up to succeed in my own business ventures moving forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a videographer and content creator. Right now a lot of my focus is on real estate content for the company I work for, but I’ve been working weddings for the last 8 years as well. I’m most proud of the fact that, despite not going to college or receiving any kind of formal training, I’ve been able to establish myself as a professional and still achieve some big milestones in both my professional and personal life, from landing full-time employment with some big, well known companies, to getting married and buying my first home by 26. I think what sets me apart is that I’m willing to admit when I don’t know how to do something, but I’m also the kind of person that will figure it out and do it at a level I can actually be proud of. I’m a huge perfectionist.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes. Every business started focusing more on their online presence, their social media footprint, and I felt that my career field found a position in just about every kind of business out there. That was a turning point for me where I really started to focus on my work, using some of that extra time during lockdown to put my nose to the grindstone and start to figure some things out.
