Daily Inspiration: Meet Erica Sweany

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Sweany.

Hi Erica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started as a personal trainer at the age of 19 because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to go to college for so I figured this would be something good to do in the meantime while I figured myself out. 13 years later, it turns out this is my absolute passion. I love coming to work and impacting people’s lives daily.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting as a personal trainer at a young age was definitely not easy. I almost quit many times. Building a clientele can be very challenging. I would tell new trainers to be persistent. Save your money- you’ll need it to fall back on in slow months but whatever you do, don’t give up.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a personal trainer and Pilates instructor. I’m best known for working with weight loss clients but I take all types of people from sports specific to geriatric. I am most proud of all the weight loss clients I have helped throughout the years. What sets me apart from others is the relationships I have with my clients. They truly are like family to me. I always try to think- am I the kind of trainer I would want my family members to work with?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Growing up, I absolutely hated working out and my mom actually paid me to work out. It’s funny that it’s now my number one passion in life.

I’m a raving fan of Erica’s! She taught me how to use the weight machines at Lifetime Fitness with the end goal that I would work out on my own. The difference here is that the trainer before Erica worked out with me, but then I was lost what to do and how to do it when she wasn’t around. Erica was training me to be better, not only with her, but on my own. Now I am confident working with weight machines where the ratio is probably 1 woman to 5 men. Fast forward, years later the training she gave to me is still paying off as the doctor advised weightlifting to prevent osteoporosis. Erica also worked out with my mother in her 80s. She didn’t love exercise, but my mother knew that Erica had her best interest at heart. Mother looked forward to her hour with Erica who has the social gift to engage in personal conversation while training. When Erica says her clients are like family, it’s because Erica truly cares about you and your health.
