Today we’d like to introduce you to Duc Phung.

Hi Duc, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always love Bubble Tea, but it was always a challenge to find a nice Bubble Tea shop in Kansas City. I enjoy visiting my brother in San Jose, California and having the opportunity to try out dozens of new boba shops there. 15 years ago, I decided to start up a concession cart doing bubble teas and smoothies learning from the ground up. I found my spot at the City Market where I can reach a diverse audience. In the next three years, I have learned a great deal from an attending festivals, concerts and other events. I grew a large follower and decided to make City Market my home and moved into a brick and motor shop and there I continue to grow and learn the art of Bubble Tea shortly after I expanded in Luz leave teas where I have added an additional 130 different Fridays of teas from all different categories. As the popularity grew, I opened a second shop in the Northland in the Creekwood Commons shopping center. Shortly after opened up the third in the independent center mall and or fourth in the west 39th St next to the KU Medical Center or latest edition the fifth location will be at the Oak Park Mall next to the food court. We will open early May 2025 that’s the story of how I got started in the Bubble Tea craft Just a quick background about myself. I majored in information technology where I have my bachelors at UMKC worked for 10 years at Cerner as in healthcare consultant traveling across the United States and other countries been able to travel I was able to capture a lot of different experience and cultures, which I also apply into the business. I’m looking to grow Dragonfly to many more Kansas locations one shop at a time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were some struggles balancing multiple responsibilities as I was working a full-time job and managing the business. Understanding the supply chain being able to diversify my product to reach more audience in addition to running into Covid and managing the labor shortage, but at the end, all dragonflies remain open and fully operational.

What matters most is having good quality stuff that you can trust and who enjoy what they’re doing delivering good customer service and quality and never cutting corners. I believe if you treat people good, they will be loyal for life. And that’s what Dragonfly symbolize.
