Daily Inspiration: Meet Douglas Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Morris.

Hi Douglas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I graduated from Missouri State University with a degree in Entertainment Management with a Minor in Marketing. From there, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry in 2017. After managing a few artists and booking shows independently, I landed an Administrative Assistant position at Producer Entertainment Group.

Producer Entertainment Group (PEG) proudly manages the most successful drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race and beyond, plus other leading LGBTQ talent. My position was specifically at the in-house record label, PEG Records. Where I spearheaded various music projects for our clients. Including but not limited to, Trixie Mattel, Katya, Alaska Thunderf*ck, Bob the Drag Queen, Monét X Change, and many more!

When my wife found out she was pregnant with our first-born, we decided it was time to pack up and head back to the Midwest to be closer to family. So in 2022, I accepted a position as Tour & Project Coordinator for Mammoth Live. Based out of Kansas City & Lawrence, Mammoth is a concert promotions & production company that does everything from small local shows, to national tours!

After 2 years of doing that, I was offered a unique, incredible opportunity where I am today. General Manager of Post Coffee – Broadway & Arts on Broadway (the venue underneath)! In addition to running the cafe upstairs, I put on small shows & productions in the venue space. It’s the perfect blend of my love for coffee AND entertainment!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My parents did an incredible job at setting me up for success. The hard work and financial planning they put into raising a family have truly made my life & career what they are today! Sure there have been crammed apartments and 40+ hour work weeks for me, but I know none of what I have would’ve been possible without their tremendous support!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The best way to summarize what I do for a living is help creatives get their work out into the world. I have spearheaded projects from Billboard charting album releases to sold out concerts in multiple territories. Hopefully, I’m most known for how I treat others, but a lot of people know me as “That straight white guy that worked with all those drag queens”!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take – Wayne Gretzky” – Michael Scott

This is so incredibly true. There were a ton of music industry events / shows I attended in Los Angeles that I didn’t necessarily want to. There were a ton of important people at said events that I didn’t feel like approaching but did. Those little things are what set you up for opportunities in the future though! Netflix will still be there when you get home.
