Daily Inspiration: Meet Demetri Tsakiris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetri Tsakiris.

Hi Demetri, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started playing music when I was 19 years old. I played in many bands throughout the local KC metal, rock, and rap scene. Winning a battle of the bands, opening up for many national acts (slaughter to prevail, volumes, the summer slaughter tour, mushroomhead etc). Did some out of state shows and also released music on all streaming platforms under my solo music Durr$ Deakon and performing with Dreams in Peril for the album titled “Mephobia”.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was at times, alot of my struggles with it stemmed from personal issues such as mental health, homelessness, and addiction. Alot of opportunities i was given i embraced full on but often came up short due to those ailments. Now I’ve embraced recovery, spiritual and mental wellness and have actually gotten in touch with some friends/musicians whom are looking to start creating art and music together.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a vocalist/ writer whom enjoys doing their own photos/videos/lyrics etc. Playing and making music in the genres of metal, rock, and rap. Im most proud of the work i did with a metal band called Dreams in peril for an album titled Mephobia, and my solo work under the name Durr$ Deakon.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I had a rough childhood as a kid.. I would say a favorite memory for me was my grandmother taking me shopping when I was round 10 years old… we went to a Barnes and Noble where she said I could get whatver I wanted..
Instead of a book… I picked up Korn’s “Life is Peachy” album.
She asked me to show her what i got…so i played her the song “twist ”
Her eyes widened, yet she saw my enthusiasm for it….and said “well…if you like it, then so do i!”
She was an amazing woman.
