Daily Inspiration: Meet David Forlu

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Forlu

Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Cameroon (West Africa) and moved to the United States in 2002. I come from a musical family that’s always been filled with expression of our culture, sounds, and songs. There’s not a day that passed growing up that we didn’t sing and/or dance together. I began playing the piano at the age of four. Not only did I train my ear for music but I was surrounded in different stages of my life with directors and teachers that would classically train me vocally and on the piano. As a follower of Christ Jesus at a young age, I realized the value of singing and playing my instrument to the scriptures in the Bible. I began turning those moments into songs that would help me and others study the Bible and draw closer to God.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road has not been easy. Growing up here in the US, I was verbally and physically bullied throughout elementary to high school for how I looked and sounded. As a result, for many years I was ashamed of my family, my culture, and God. It led me to be filled with many insecurities, fearing rejection, and fearing what others would say or think of me, rather than what God thought and saw. Overcoming these fears have been a process. I have been intentional to spend my time with song writing and searching scriptures in order to find freedom from what was once an obstacle. Fast foward to now and with much growth and healing, I am now creating the music that I love and enjoy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a worship leader, recording artist, and content creator. I’ve been leading worship for over a decade while training others to do the same.
On my YouTube channel (David Forlu) I share intimate soaking worship moments for people to behold the beauty of Jesus and rest in His presence through videos and instrumentals. This helps people engage their day to meditate, study the Word of God, rest, sing, and go about their day with any activities. I also use this channel to release other records. I offer exclusive content through my YouTube membership program and Patreon membership to subscribers. On both platforms I am able to share early song and instrumental releases which include practical and relatable lessons on singing through the scriptures and cultivating a heart of worship, and offer live streaming prayer and worship calls. Of recent, I am excited to announce the achievement of 100k subscribers on my channel. The support from the listeners from around the world mean very much to me.

Being a content creator and worship leader allows me to train and mentor people to grow in their musical skill, be biblically literate and to reveal the heart of God. There is nothing like playing and singing through the lens of God’s word in the expression of your culture. This is what sets me apart. It is life transforming and a beautiful way to bring people together. By God’s grace the songs and melodies I’ve been given have not only touched my life but many who have been able to listen, and I pray that testimony never stops.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been joyful, very optimistic, and a person of gratitude. I’ve enjoyed reading and listening to books, spending time with my family, and dreaming of being a sports analyst.
