Today we’d like to introduce you to Clinton Cox.
Hi, Clinton; having you on the platform is an honor. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
What’s going on everybody? I’m Clint Cox, aka Big Husk 1/2 of KBH the Prodigies, a hip-hop tandem base out of Belton, MO. I became a Mc about 7 years ago and haven’t looked back since. Much like a lot of young people, my social life revolved around drinking. Unfortunately for me, I had a binge drinking problem where I wouldn’t stop until I was at blackout level. That all stopped one day when the other half of KBH, the Prodigies, my dear friend Ben Teter, saw me rapping over the top of popular rappers and opened my eyes to the creative process of making our music. Today, we are still pursuing that dream and have put out a Trilogy of albums, singles, and EPs. Our discography of music has a little something for everyone. We have emotional songs such as 3 AM and Need You to get you pumped up for the gym songs, like Jet Pack Altitude and Pro Mode, and so many more.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road for us has sometimes been rocky. It’s a challenging process to come out of your shell initially, and of course, you’ll be met with a lot of doubt and discouragement. Along with finding myself through music, I also had to continue fighting out of the binge-drinking party stage of my life. As an Artist, you’ll always have the obstacles of creating rather than coming from writer’s block or pushing yourself to make time to start. For all the young artists, please go through those beginning stages of doubt and hate because the reward of finding yourself and your confidence is worth more than can be told.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve loved hip-hop music for as long as I can remember. Being able to create hip-hop tracks is something I would’ve never pictured for myself, but it’s the same as any other career path. The more you put into anything, the more rewarding it will be. Work ethic is what separates us from other artists. We’re constantly creating and have a sound and tandem like no other. I’m very proud we are a tandem, bringing back the old-school MC feel of kicking the mic around. Mobb Depp and Outkast-type vibes are what we go for! Together on tracks but also so stylistically different on tracks, bringing you a unique sound and style.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We look up to so many artists that it would take days to get through, but I will mention a few. Logic and J Cole are Mcs that have changed my life and approach. Ben has always been as big of a Tech N9ne fan as I’ve ever known, and that shows in his style. Eminem made us both fall in love with hip-hop at a young age, and with his constant reminders, Russ made us realize that if you have the talent and put in the work, you can make it.
