Daily Inspiration: Meet Brian Imes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Imes.

Hi Brian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As the stepson of an architect who built custom homes for fifty years in Missouri, I have been on a construction site since I was eight years old. My small-town upbringing taught me to be of service to the family business.

As a young man, I worked as a bartender on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. I took on woodworking jobs for patrons and friends after they took note of my wood refinishing project at my condo; challenging myself to tackle bigger and more complex projects as my experience grew.

Throughout my professional MMA and boxing career while in my thirties, I found steady service building exterior wood structures,

Since 2016, I have made my passion for woodworking my full-time trade. I have built, along with my ever-evolving team of contractors, over 400 exterior wood structures. My son, who will turn five in November, has been an inspiration to me as I continue to grow and joins me on construction sites, just like I did with my stepdad.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The joy of making the day my own, every day, is worth any and all struggles. I produce nearly every day for my customers, and the sight of my work at the end of the day is a reward in and of itself.

A positive attitude and a square work ethic will overcome all obstacles. It’s a fun ride!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of my evolution and innovations as a fence builder. I believe that the methods and designs I employ create the most lasting and thorough enjoyment for my customers; giving them a quality, custom product that they are proud to showcase.

The fence projects have led to opportunities to create unique decks, pergolas, railings, awnings, staircases, garden beds, retaining walls, and roofs.

As an independent operator, I have the freedom and ability to provide exceptional customer service and engagement. I value the individual connections that this business provides me the opportunity to experience.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I currently collaborate with numerous skilled tradespeople who help me provide value to my customers. I am so appreciative of the innovation and inspiration they provide. Any independent builders, artisans, designers, fabricators, or tradesmen are welcome to reach out with ideas or potential opportunities.

As a small business owner, I believe strongly in being committed to doing business with other small business owners in all aspects of my life and encourage others to do so. Creating a culture of doing business with your neighbors is good for the community.
