Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandt Minden.
Brandt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1996. For almost as long as I can remember, making art has been my passion in life. I grew up expressing myself through visual art. Today, I am a full time painter & photographer based in Lawrence. I take part in various art events in the community including art markets, art fairs and solo & group exhibitions.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always a smooth road for me. I was diagnosed with autism at the age of five, which has presented many social challenges for me, one of the main ones being social anxiety. I find many social situations overwhelming.
I lost my dad unexpectedly at the age of twelve, a loss that I still struggle with to this day & I battle against anxiety and depression.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in both photography & painting/drawing. I’m known for using very bright colors and elaborate patterns in my work. Rainbows can be found in the majority of my work. I work with canvases of all shapes and sizes and experiment with a variety of patterns.
As for my photography, I usually take photos of landscapes, buildings, plants, flowers, trees, or anything else that catches my eye.
I’m proud that I’ve been able to do several solo art shows & to have been a part of a wide range of art markets in my town. Doing art shows & markets has helped get my work out there and meet a lot of great people along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Making art makes me feel joy. I also feel happy bringing hope and inspiration to others through my creative work. I have a great relationship with my family & friends and love to spend time with them.
My adorable cat, Maggie, is my companion and also brings me happiness.
