Daily Inspiration: Meet Anh Huynh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anh Huynh

Hi Anh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Anh, born and raised in Kansas. I’m a first-generation Vietnamese American, and I’ve called Kansas City home since 2003. I’ve always been fascinated with florals – drawn to their embodiment of love, beauty, fragility, celebration and remembrance. Over a year ago, I ventured into the art of preserving flowers, a journey I’ve wholeheartedly embraced. It gives me a sense of purpose to preserve treasured memories for others and knowing that they’ll be able to display them beautifully in their homes for years to come.

Crafting has always been a passion of mine, but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to turn it into a profession. I owe it to my friends who entrusted me with their wedding bouquets, giving me the opportunity to experiment with different techniques and discover the process that works best for me. With each floral preservation project, I’ve refined my skills while expressing my creativity, and I’m truly grateful for their support throughout the journey.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I first started experimenting with flower preservation, I tried working with resin. However, it proved challenging due to the toxic fumes and particles and the fact that resin yellows over time, which is irreversible. Plus, it’s not environmentally friendly. So, I switched to shadow boxes, and it’s worked out perfectly! They allow the flowers to be displayed upright, showcasing every detail. I’ve also completed a few pressed flower projects, but my clients tend to prefer shadow boxes, as they can see the entire bouquet beautifully in its natural form.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I became a floral preservation artist to help others preserve the memories and emotions of a special day or event. Each flower and bouquet carries its own sentimental value, telling a unique story that deserves to be cherished.

When it comes to bridal bouquets, fresh flowers are stunning but fleeting. By preserving the bouquet, it’s investing in a lasting keepsake that won’t fade with time. It’s a meaningful and cost-effective way to relive the magic of the wedding day. For memorial bouquet preservation, it’s a touching way to honor a loved one. I carefully dry the flowers from the funeral or memorial and arrange them in a shadow box, along with a photo or memento. These boxes serve as a source of comfort, reminding us to heal and persevere through difficult times.

I’m incredibly proud and grateful to have founded Bao Blooms. It’s been an honor to help couples and families preserve their most cherished moments—whether celebrating a special occasion or honoring the memory of a loved one. My work stands out because of its unique preservation style, capturing the natural beauty of the florals without any color correction. Invitations, photos, and mementos are individually framed to complement the shadow box, bringing everything together beautifully with the flowers. A hint of gold or silver from modern or vintage-inspired frames adds an extra touch of elegance. I’ve also been experimenting with transparent and neon frames for brides who love a bold, modern look. They really add a fresh and contemporary twist to the preservation style.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe taking risks is essential to achieving goals in life, but do I always choose that path? Not always. It took me a long time, along with a lot of support from family and friends, to create Bao Blooms and become a first-time vendor at the KC Bridal Expo. At times, the fear of failure can overshadow your drive to succeed, leading to delays or hesitation. But when you finally find the courage to take that leap, it’s an unforgettable feeling—a reminder of your strength and what you’re truly capable of.

Anh puts so much passion and effort into every single one of her projects. The shadow boxes she had created for me have been treasured and beautifully displayed in our house. I can’t wait to see more of her creative work in the future. Thanks for all you have done to make your wonderful pieces and bringing life to the flowers forever.
