Daily Inspiration: Meet Alyssa Barletter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Barletter.

Hi Alyssa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2013, I graduated from K-State with a Fine Arts degree and a heart set on becoming a wedding photographer.

I always enjoyed photographing people and thought weddings would be pretty and fun. Almost 10 years later, weddings are very pretty and so much fun, but owning my own business has proved to be so much more fulfilling than I could have anticipated.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The early years were tough. I wasn’t booking enough work to be ‘full time’ but I also didn’t have enough time to work a ‘regular’ job. Most retail jobs require weekend availability, and I needed weekends for clients. It was chaotic.

Then things got really good. I was booking couples that I really loved working with and my calendar was full. I love what I do, but I knew I was beginning to feel burnt out from wedding after wedding. Then 2020 arrived and I was pretty much out of a job for most of the year. 2020 was hard, 2021 was weird, and 2022 seems to be heading back towards a normal wedding season.

These next few years have been called the ‘wedding boom’ All of the couples who had to postpone their weddings are now planning for now. It’s never boring in the wedding industry!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It’s my firm belief that wedding days are not about the photos.

Yes, photos are important, but spending time with your people outweighs everything. I pride myself on cultivating a laid-back atmosphere so that my clients, their families, and friends can enjoy themselves while I document this day in their lives.

I’d say that I’m known for capturing real emotion without being intrusive.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If you’re in the market for a photographer – whether it is for your proposal, engagement, wedding, anniversary, newborn, family, ANYTHING!

I’d love to chat with you more about what you want to see if we are a good fit. The easiest way to support any small business is to interact on social media. Comment! Share! It’s simple and more effective than you think.
