Daily Inspiration: Meet Ali Begnaud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Begnaud

Hi Ali, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After college, like many twenty-somethings, I was deciding what I wanted to do with my life. When I was young, I had some struggles with my skin, and I spent a lot of my time in the Dermatologist office. Due to that, I developed a love for all things skin care, so I became an Aesthetician. I am licensed in both Kansas and California and began working in Kansas for a dermatologist, helping clients with their own skin concerns. In 2009, I moved to California to continue my career in the Aesthetics industry while working with actors on film sets as a makeup artist. Eventually, I moved into the plastic surgery field in Los Angeles. I learned so much during my nearly 10 years in LA, and more specifically falling in love with Spray Tans (this was becoming a very popular service at the time in California). Once my husband and I started having children, we decided to move back to Kansas City to be closer to our families. After we returned, and after taking a few years off to raise my little babies, I went back to work and opened my own spa in Prairie Village, KS. Covid was a hard time for our industry so we decided to close the spa doors until the dust settled. Little by little, people started to get out of their houses, and attend parties. They were also starting to travel again and needed tans for these occasions. Once I decided to re-open my doors, I made the decision to focus on what I loved doing the most, and that was spray tans! And that’s how Developed Tans was born!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not exactly been a smooth road, no. Between moving to and from California, taking some time away to raise a family, and opening up a brick and mortar location 6 months prior to Covid, I have certainly experienced my troubles! Not to mention self doubt (ie, Am I really good enough to run a business?), not just providing a service on a payroll and being there for my family and clients whenever they need. This has all proven to continue to give me new challenges weekly, but I love being an entrepreneur at this phase in my life, and it gives me so much freedom! I absolutely adore my clientele. They really make it worth coming in that door each day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Although I am a spray tan Artist, I do believe being a licensed Aesthetician for nearly 20 years sets me apart from the crowd. Not only do I love making people feel instantly confident with a non-harmful glow within 15 minutes, I know and understand all things skin! I can spot many different skin concerns with my clients, and I’m able to tell if they are going to have an issue in any area with their end result because of this too. Most of the time I can help give them remedies before their next service. Not only that, I am aware of the sanitation laws in the state of Kansas. I want to make sure my clients have a clean and safe environment when they walk into my studio. However, I think what I am most known for, or at least hope, is my attention to detail. I want you to have the best tan of your life when you leave my office. I truly take my time and do the best job I possibly can. I am continually trying to learn new tricks, or learning new techniques from other artists. I know people are coming to me and spending their hard earned money, and I want them all to feel like they are getting their money’s worth with each appointment. I try as hard as I can to make every person feel as genuinely comfortable and safe as possible while in my care. For women especially, this can be a bit of a vulnerable service, and I hope women (and men) walk away feeling as though they were just visiting with a good friend.

What matters most to you?
I truly try to offer the best customer service possible. Like I mentioned before, I know people are choosing to spend their money with me, and I want them to feel as though they received a great value at Developed Tans. I am working in the service industry, and that means I have to try and please every person who walks through my door. Even if they end up having a concern, I truly hope they could tell someone else that no matter what, the customer service was a perfect 10!
