Conversations with Ximena Zermeño

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ximena Zermeño.

Hi Ximena, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my professional journey as a lawyer in Mexico City, where I was born, and raised.

I first decided to go into the path of law as I was always in the search for justice in the world, so, my first intention with the law was about raising my voice for those who were in difficult situations. As time passed, I also encountered that sensitivity to not only human rights, but also animal rights, which, until now, is one of my biggest missions in life and which I actively practice as an animal rights activist.

After some years of working as a lawyer, I decided to shift my direction into something that would allow me to not only do my work as an activist, but having a healthier lifestyle, and also in which I could express my creativity, break down the routine and make people happier. That’s when photography came into my life.

It was the perfect tool to both, have freedom and at the same time, capture peoples’ most happy moments. What really got me into photography was not photography itself, but being able to connect with others and the magic of capturing memories.

Today, I am a renamed wedding photographer, living in paradisiac Baja California Sur, I wake up at 5:30 am, meditate every morning, do my physical practice and from there on, my days are always different.

Whether I have a photoshoot, a rescue mission, a wedding, or a day on the beach, every day, I am in search of growth, learning, and most of all, to keep playing and enjoying this dance of life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been rough at times, and smoother some others, yet, mostly the steps of choice and stepping out of the comfort zone have been the most challenging ones, but the ones that have been worth taking the most.

Deciding to leave my city to go live in a new place, and launching my business without any client, or contact. settling emotionally and physically in a new environment and rediscovering myself along the way, has been the scariest and most amazing journey!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a destination wedding photographer based in Los Cabos, Mexico. I am specialized in documentary photography of marriage celebrations in Mexico, and the USA, and little by little expanding my vision to Europe.

I am known for the high-end quality of my shots, and candid photography as well as the aesthetic and magic of the images I capture. Yet to be fair, it’s not all me, but the couples that trust me for capturing their love.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
GO FOR IT! Try, test, experiment, and trust the path.

Launching yourself is not always easy but it’s worth it. One day, you will look back and will remember all that you’ve done, and just that feeling of not regretting not having done it is enough to keep moving forward.
