Conversations with Viktoriya Stoycheva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viktoriya Stoycheva.

Hi Viktoriya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I both have full time careers that we love. We have always had a dream of owning a coffee shop. Opening Smiley’s Coffee Bar fulfills this dream and allows us to be flexible with when we operate. The magical thing about this business model is we get to be part of people’s special events, whether it is a wedding, a birthday, graduation, or staff appreciation, we get the honor to serve delicious coffee and connect with wonderful people!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, it has been a smooth journey. We gave ourselves a lot of time to research and figure out how all of this works, all while navigating being first time parents and first time business owners! Let’s just say, my husband has learned a lot about plumbing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a mobile coffee bar that can set up in all kinds of venues. We currently offer espresso beverages and matcha. We love curating menus that reflect our clients’ favorite drinks, flavors, and personalities. We are very proud of turning this vision and dream into reality. Our first couple of events truly took our breath away and filled our cups. Like how is this our reality?

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I was born in Bulgaria and move to the United States at the age of 8. I remember going back to visit and would hang out at the neighborhood market, “helping” my grandma’s friend. My grandma owned a coffee shop inside of an office building and I always liked to be behind the counter once again, “helping”! I absolutely loved my childhood and playing outside with my cousins and friends until the street lights came on with no care in the world.

My husband is from Vietnam. He moved to the United States at 8 months old! His favorite childhood memory is playing and riding his bike with his neighborhood friends after school!
