Conversations with Stephanie Ramsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Ramsey.

Hi Stephanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in the Midwest and moved as a kid to Southern California because of my father’s job. There I lived for 38 years, raised my three kids, and after the youngest went to college, I decided to make major changes in my life. Last summer, I relocated to North Idaho, finally divorced (we agreed years ago to share a house until the kids were adults), and started the next chapter of my life. I loved my new home, hiking the local trails, modifying my Jeep for off-roading adventures, and just enjoyed my new journey as a 50-year-old single woman living on her own for the first time. Less than two months into Idaho life, I had a plot twist. I met a man who stole my heart and decided to relocate again to the Kansas City area. Professionally, I am fortunate to work as a Marketing Consultant for an awesome company that allows me to work from home. This allowed both moves to be easy on my career.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Life has not been smooth at times. A huge turning point came about in 2016 when I was terminated from a Fortune 50 company due to my struggle with alcoholism. I have seven years of sobriety under my belt and use my experience and story to help inspire others. I recover out loud so those struggling with addiction know there is a better way to live, and they can change their lives. Losing my job was my rock bottom because I allowed it to define me. My priorities were so misplaced that my career was the most important thing in my life at the time. Having that taken away taught me so many valuable lessons. There is something so beautiful in rebuilding your life into something better. I got to redefine who I wanted to be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Professionally, I am proud to use my past career experience in technology to serve as a strategic resource for my clients. On a more personal note, I share my story with others as an inspirational speaker. I openly talk about my battle with addiction, getting sober, and getting mentally and physically healthy to be my best version.

What makes you happy?
Enjoying the journey has become my mantra. I look for joy every day. A few years into sobriety, I took up hiking, and it has continued to be a focal point in my life. Getting on the trails allows me to slow down, breathe, and appreciate nature therapy. I never thought I would be the person who would climb mountains, but it has rewards like no other experience I have had.
