Conversations with Stephanie Eastwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Eastwood.

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At first I enrolled into college to start nursing school. I quickly learned that I was not a great fit for nursing. I was talking to my daughter whom was 14 at the time about what I should do. She asked me “Mom, what do you enjoy doing?” I responded Well I love to cook. Then she said have you ever thought about going to culinary school? And that’s when I decided to look into all the culinary schools in the KC area and decided on JCCC Culinary College. I graduated in 2010. I served my apprenticeship at Lionsgate Country Club. And shortly after I graduated I took a Leap of faith and started my Catering business Thyme for Seasoning Catering & Events. That was 12 years ago. Every year I’ve grown and I truly love what I do!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s honestly been pretty smooth. I was taught the business aspect at JCCC. Along with the cooking and processes at LionsGate. The largest struggle has been staffing. Not everyone has a passion for cooking like I do. Finding the right people that are passionate about events is not an easy task.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I take pride into making 90% of my food from scratch & using fresh & local ingredients as much as I can. I feel that sets me apart from so many other catering companies. I literarily step out the door of my kitchen to my fresh herb garden that I use in so many of my dishes! I love doing private chef parties. Where I come & prepared & cook for a gathering in the clients home. I cater for weddings all over the KC metro. I do corporate catering. Drop off deliveries and box lunches. Pretty much anything. I love when clients ask me to do something special for their event. To personalize their menu for their event

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I live on my own little Homestead. I plant and raise a large garden. I love preserving all of my personal food. I freeze dry all of the herbs that I use in my dishes. We currently milk three cows twice a day. I make butter, cheese and fresh baked goods from my raw milk & eggs. We also have a couple of donkeys, 85 chickens and 7 pigs we are raising for personal consumption. (Not catering! only for personal consumption!) I am very passionate about where our food comes from and not using preservatives!
