Conversations with Skyler Luster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Luster.

Hi Skyler, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Skyler Luster also known as Sincerely_Sky on Social Media, a content creator and influencer proudly based out of Kansas City. I originally joined Instagram back in April 2012, simply as a way to share my life and passions. But my journey as a social media influencer really began in 2017 when I landed my first ambassador partnership with a hair company called WhiteLabel. Growing up, hair was always something I loved, I started doing my own hair in middle school and eventually became the go-to stylist for a lot of my friends and family.

Being the oldest of eight siblings, I always felt the responsibility to lead by example, and I think that drive pushed me creatively as well. At first, Instagram was just a hobby, posting daily, sharing my hair looks, my outfits, and just little pieces of my life. In 2015, everything changed when a photo of my hair unexpectedly went viral on Instagram and Pinterest. My notifications were non-stop, and companies would start reaching out to me about collaborations. That’s when I realized there might be something bigger here.

I began working with hair companies, showcasing their products in exchange for hair. At the time, I didn’t even realize people were getting paid for this! As more brands noticed me, I started expanding into fashion, which had always been another passion of mine. Coming from a large family, we didn’t always have access to the latest styles, but I loved putting together creative outfits from what I had. That resourcefulness shaped my personal style and helped me land my first clothing collaboration with a boutique called ShopwithPink based out of New Orleans.

From there, things just kept growing. What started as free hair and clothes turned into paid collaborations with some of the biggest names in beauty and fashion, including Fashion Nova, PrettyLittleThing, Kurt Geiger, Miss Lola, Ego, Bella Barnett, Lancôme, Maybelline, YSL, Love Vera, Amazon, and many more.

I’m also incredibly thankful for my husband, who’s not only my number one supporter but also my photographer. He’s been behind the camera taking my photos since the moment I decided to take social media seriously. Having someone who believes in me and supports my vision from the very start has made all the difference in my journey. I would also like to acknowledge my loving and hardworking parents who have molded me into the woman I am today and for that, I’m forever grateful!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say my journey has been full of struggles, but it hasn’t always been easy either. One of my biggest challenges has been balancing everything, managing work, family life, and keeping up with the fast pace of content creation. Family has always been a big part of my life, so learning how to balance those responsibilities while growing my brand has taken time. Time management is something I’ve really had to work on, especially as more opportunities came my way and expectations grew. But overall, every challenge has helped me grow personally and professionally.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a social media influencer who specializes in beauty, fashion, and lifestyle content. I’m known for sharing everything from hair tutorials and style inspiration to glimpses of my life as a wife and mother. What I’m most proud of is being able to represent balance, showing women that you can build a brand, grow as a creator, and still prioritize family life. I love that women can look at me and see an example of someone who’s a mom, a wife, a big sister, and still making space for her own passions and career.

What sets me apart is my authenticity. I’ve never tried to fit into a mold. My content has always reflected who I truly am. I think that realness resonates with people, and it’s something I’ll always stay true to.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see the influencer industry continuing to evolve with a bigger focus on authenticity and community driven content. Audiences are becoming more interested in real stories, real people, and brands that feel relatable. I believe creators who stay true to themselves will continue to thrive.

As for me personally, I see myself and my brand expanding. I’m currently working on launching my own personal boutique, along with a second-hand retail space that focuses on affordable yet stylish fashion. I want to create a space where people can shop pieces I personally love, as well as find unique, sustainable options. My goal is to build something that not only reflects my personal style but also inspires others to create their own, no matter their budget.
