Today we’d like to introduce you to ShaNae Nelson-Murphy.
Hi ShaNae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My mom is my role model and my hero. My mom is a nurse and every since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to be just like her. The compassion she had for people and her desire to help other I always admired. When I graduated high school I majored in pre-med and got my first job as a pharmacy technician. After my first year of pre-med, I decided to switch to pre-pharm. I loved learning about the medicine and the human body. However working in the pharmacy you encounter a lot of rude and unpleasant people During this time I experienced my first massage. That massage changed my life. I decided, that is what I wanted to do. My initial reason for becoming a massage therapist was because of the flexible hours, I had two small kids at the time. The other reason was because I could help people feel better if they were having a bad day or overwhelmed with stress. Over they next few years I was mentored by two AMAZING therapist, Shay and Joslin. These two ladies help me own my craft. They got me to start thinking outside the “spa” box. That is when I discovered I could combine my medical field desire with the world of relaxation. Since then medical/therapeutic massage has become my passion. I love working with athletes especially kids, teaching them about the importance of taking care of their bodies. People with chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, pre/post surgery, I get such satisfaction in helping people. My combination of relaxation and therapeutic massage and being able to help people, not only mentally but also physically is my purpose in life. I am a true believer the God has a purpose for everyone and it is our job to figure out what that is. I am beyond blessed to be able to fulfill my purpose that God has called me to do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing in life or of any importance is smooth. If you want something out of life sacrifices will have to be made, trails and tribulations will be encountered. Some of my struggles were missing out on time with my boys when they were small because I worked full time and went to school full time. I tried two times prior to opening The Body garage to start my own business. Trying to figure out how to advertise and market. Trying to network and figure out the ones that are just trying to take advantage of you. Trying to figure out how to expand your business. There is a lot of late night, long days and missing out to become successful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in therapeutic and medical massage. I am known for combining the relaxation part of massage with the therapeutic part. Another thing that sets me apart I think is my desire to learn. I also study traditional Chinese medicine. I think eastern medicine has so many more benefits than western medicine. I like to combine my knowledge of western medicine with my knowledge of eastern to help get the best results I can during a session. I truly believe in treating the mind, body and spirit. That you should treat the root cause not just the symptoms. The human body is so complex but so magical. Learning and teaching people how to take care of it the right way brings me joy. I also love biohacking and I am trying to bring that to the forefront of the western medicine. I offer multiple biohacking therapies, redlight therapy, pemf, vibroacoustic, vibration plate, lymphatic roller, hyperbaric chamber, cognitive traing, cold plunge and infrared sauana(contrast therpay). The children are our future so ultimate goal is to get them into taking care of there bodies, especially athletes. Kids put so much wear and tear on their bodies nowadays that they are needing knee and hip replacements in their 40’s and 50’s. I have been putting extra emphasis at my practice to get young people in to offset early future surgeries and cabinets full of prescription medications.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am an extremely shy person. I don’t do very well with putting myself out there and talking to people. My business has turned into what it has not because of my social skills but because of my results. Word of mouth from people telling other people about their experience is what has made me successful. Now once you get to know you…..I am the life of the party!
