Conversations with Rokco Sym

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rokco Sym.

Hi Rokco, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve never been someone who follows a traditional path. I’m a single mom of four, and most of what I’ve built came from learning as I went. I’ve always been creative, and I found a way to turn that creativity into a career through barbering, braiding, locs, and hair.

Building my business hasn’t always been easy. There were plenty of times when life threw obstacles in my way, but I’ve always believed that if there’s a problem, there’s a solution. That mindset has helped me grow not only as a business owner, but as a person.

What I love most about what I do is the connection with people. Hair is more than hair. It’s confidence, self-expression, culture, and community. Being able to help someone feel better about themselves while also providing for my family is something I don’t take for granted.

Today, I’m focused on continuing to grow RoKCo Stylez LLC, creating opportunities for my family, and showing my children that success isn’t about having a perfect plan. It’s about staying determined, being willing to learn, and never being afraid to start over when life calls for it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey meaningful. Being a single mom of four while building a business has required a lot of sacrifice, patience, and determination. There were times when I was trying to be a parent, business owner, student, problem-solver, and everything else all at once.

Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced financial challenges, periods of uncertainty, and moments where I had to trust myself even when I didn’t have all the answers. I’ve learned that sometimes you just take the next step and figure the rest out along the way.

Every obstacle has taught me something. They’ve made me stronger, more resourceful, and more appreciative of the opportunities I’ve been given. The road hasn’t always been easy, but I wouldn’t be who I am today without those experiences.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Creativity has always been at the center of everything I do. While many people know me as a barber, I consider myself an artist first. Hair is my canvas, and every client who sits in my chair gives me an opportunity to create something unique that reflects their personality and style.

I specialize in barbering, braiding, locs, natural hair care, and creative styling. What I enjoy most is working with a wide variety of hair textures and helping people find a look that makes them feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. Whether it’s a clean haircut, a detailed braid design, starter locs, or a complete transformation, I approach every service with the same level of care and creativity.

What I’m most proud of is building RoKCo Stylez LLC into something that reflects who I am. I’ve created more than a business. I’ve created a space where people can relax, be themselves, and leave feeling better than when they arrived. Many of my clients become like family, and those relationships are one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people. Technical skill is important, but I believe clients remember how you make them feel. I bring creativity, authenticity, and genuine care into every appointment. I’m constantly learning, experimenting, and growing as both an artist and a business owner, which allows me to offer something that’s uniquely my own.

At the end of the day, my goal isn’t just to create great hair. It’s to help people feel confident, seen, and empowered.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Hair brought me into this industry, but relationships are what have kept me here. The biggest way people can support me is by continuing to show up, trust me with their hair, recommend me to their friends and family, and engage with my work online.

I’m always excited to meet new clients and connect with other creatives, entrepreneurs, and small business owners in the community. Whether it’s through appointments, collaborations, community events, or simply sharing each other’s work, I believe we all grow faster when we support one another.

RoKCo Stylez LLC was built through community support, and I’m grateful for every person who has sat in my chair, referred a client, shared a post, or encouraged me along the way. Those small acts of support have helped turn a dream into a business, and I never take that for granted.

For those who want to follow my journey, connect with me on social media, share my work, and help spread the word. Building a business truly takes a community, and I’m incredibly grateful for every person who has supported me along the way.
