Conversations with Rob Love

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Love.

Rob, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
How I started was I had a chance to make a childhood dream become reality. I have always been a person who goes for my dreams and takes the path less traveled. I initially saw my journey taking me from a successful NBA career into the world of stand up comedy however that wasn’t the case. After my college basketball career was complete, I searched for purpose and plan for my life. I eventually found comedy and pursued it passionately just like my basketball career. I started from open mics to national stages, with determination and focus plus God. Your goals are attainable.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges and obstacles have included losing love ones, remaining an involved and present father while going for my goals and dreams. As well as navigating the entertainment business and relazing friendship and business don’t always mix. Everything I’ve experienced has made me a better person and entertainer. Life doesn’t happen to you, things happen for you. The hard stuff is meant to make you strong, the good stuff is to remind you that you’re on the right path.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a stand up comedian, writer, actor, motivational speaker and life coach. I am in love with the craft of stand up comedy. I love to make people laugh and enjoy their time in my presence. I’m most proud of my positive influence and uplifting spirit that I share with others. I get a portion of that from my dad and mom and that’s what sets me apart. I’m here to build not destroy. I want to make others feel good and be a light in these somewhat dark times.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family has been my biggest inspiration and support. Although they’re gone physically, I can still hear my mother’s laugh. I remember my dad addressing an audience and creating spontaneous laughter.. My sisters, cousins, brothers and girlfriend have all been apart of my support system. My children inspire me and make me happy and proud at the same time..

Comedicly there are more than a few. In Memphis Funnyman Prescott, Tony Tone, Lomax (RIP) and more have served as comedy ogs. Reggie Junior, Mason King, Ambrose Jones, Latoy a Tennille, Ashawntee Johnson and more have been comrdy brothers and sisters. Rodney Perry, Tyler Craig (RIP), Donnell Rawlings, DL Hughley and Melanie Comarcho have been mentors. The list goes on. No one makes it wherever they’re going without the help of someone else.
