Conversations with Richard Holman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Holman.

Hi Richard, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We decided to try our hand as business owners. We bought the equipment from a closing garment decorating shop in 2018. I like most business owners thought we could make this work purely on hard work. I can’t remember the last time I was so wrong. Hard work was the easy part. Building relationships, being in the right place at the right time were huge. Fortune smiling upon you every now and again is paramount.

We are in our eighth year now. We are Best Of Lawrence three years in a row for screen printing. I am very proud of the work we do. Our embroidery is probably what we are best known for, Sidney is a genius of the stitch and this place runs smoothly and efficiently because of her.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been smooth. We started in 2018 and after a year I thought maybe we made a misstep! Now it is 2020 and groups aren’t meeting and teams aren’t playing. Needless to say there were some struggles. Our core market was unavailable to us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialized in I.T. Networking for most of my prior career. I am most proud of my time instructing at a Technical College near my hometown. I had the honor of teaching 18 hours of I.T. courses at Manhattan Area Technical College. A wonderful institution and great people.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was pretty happy. I had friends that made the days fly by. I’m a great deal more reserved than I was back then. I ran track and cross country. The absolute best sports!
