Conversations with Rhiannon & Eric Bodine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhiannon & Eric Bodine.

Hi Rhiannon & Eric, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are Eric and Rhiannon Bodine. Husband and wife duo. Photographers of all things impassioned, out of the ordinary, and requiring a little bit of adventure. We are LFK based elopement and intimate wedding photographers. We are Kansas natives born and raised smack in the middle of the Flint Hills. Since 2014, we have been exploring all over middle America with our kiddo in tow. In the last seven years, our love for traveling (and each other) has only grown. In each other, we have found our passion and the ability to be our authentic selves.

Rhiannon:

My interest in photography began around age five. I can remember this pinewood box my mom had that was filled to the brim with photos, real tangible ones even because it was definitely 2002. I remember taking each one out and begging my mom to tell me the story behind it before carefully adding it to the stacks spread out around me. I have been obsessed with photos and the stories they represent ever since.

I landed on weddings and elopements after my own experience as a bride. With the help of our amazing wedding Photographers (another husband-and-wife duo), this anti-bride-bride-to-be broke the traditional mold and ended up on a mountain at 6 am marrying the love of her life. I am here for those brides The introverts, the adventurers, the “I don’t give a damn how my mom got married, I want to do it my way” brides. I am here for the brides (and grooms!) like me.

Eric:

I got my start in photography in the third grade. As a kid, I was in Cub Scouts and my dad was our den leader. During an overnight camp out, he broke out his old Minolta camera. It was a vintage film camera and had the coolest Southwestern patterned strap. A very, very cool camera, at least by 10-year-old standards. I got to take pictures during that campout and couldn’t wait to get back and develop them.

The problem with that camera is that the latch on the film compartment was broken. At some point that weekend, the latch popped open and exposed the entire roll of film. Imagine my devastation. I never got to develop those pictures, but I was hooked just the same. Since then, I have been taking pictures with whatever I can get my hands on. From Polaroid, to flip phone, to camcorder, to buying my very own DSLR. Photography is and has always been my happy place.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We wouldn’t call it smooth necessarily, we are still new to professional photography and so every time we do something it is new. We got thrown into wedding photography with both feet shooting our first two weddings within three months of starting. Finding our style, and what works for us workflow-wise is a work in progress, but we wouldn’t change it for the world. We both work full-time day jobs and have pretty packed personal lives. so, prioritizing photography is a whole new world. We spend most of our free time editing, shooting, or planning. It’s crazy but we love it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are primarily couples’ photographers. We specialize in weddings, elopements, engagements, and adventure sessions with people who are just as in love as we are. We are constantly striving to provide the best client experience possible for our couples. Capturing great photos of important moments is the bare minimum for us. We want to know all about a couples love and really get to know them. We want to build genuine, lasting relationships and capture as much authenticity along the way as possible. If we had to describe our style in three words, they would be: Romantic, Nostalgic, and Warm. We want our photos to be timeless and fun. When we deliver a gallery, our hope is that you can look back at those photos in five, ten, fifteen years, and FEEL the way you felt on that day. We are definitely storytellers through our photos. We shoot in a documentary style in order to ensure that we are capturing our couples as authentically and honestly as they occur. We do this with minimal posing and as little interjecting as possible. We will give a direction and more times than not; our couples will just run with it. Instead of cutting in to get them into the next pose, we tend to just roll with it and see how things play out. Our sessions are designed with comfort and fun in mind first. I think the thing we are most proud of is kicking off 2021 with the most MAGICAL elopement for some dear friends to Clarks Fork Canyon outside of Cody, Wyoming. The entire week-long trip was incredible and it continually blows our mind how willing our couples are to put their faith in us and trust that their photos will turn out exactly how they pictured them in their minds. As far as what sets us apart, we are always willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the day is running smoothly, a few small examples that immediately come to mind include; s0 much laying down in gravel, doing an engagement shoot in sub-zero temperatures in the snow, helping sew bridesmaids into their dresses, hurdling across mud puddles to get shots of the first kiss, hanging off of trees’ trunk over a river, and so many other crazy things. We will do whatever our couples need whenever they need to ensure that they have the experience they deserve.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
KC truly feels alive to us. With so many different people and cultures combining the city is constantly changing and growing. The community we have built, and the creators we are surrounded by are unlike any other. Where else in the country can you get an experience like Kansas City provides? and Football. Can we talk about football?

Is it a canned response if we say traffic? Because if you want our honest opinion the traffic is the WORST. We both grew up in towns with no stoplights and more cows than people, so rush hour is a little rough on us.
