Conversations with Peju Bamgboshe Rothlisberger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peju Bamgboshe Rothlisberger.

Hi Peju, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is still being written. I always enjoyed being creative & disappearing into fantasy worlds. So, I became interested in acting. I learned about promotional modeling, brand ambassadors, and experiential marketing through auditioning and side hustles. It was a fun, unique way of earning income, meeting incredibly talented people, and learning about new brands. I was working as a background talent on SNL when I discovered the world of event marketing. Soon, I became a Promotional Model, Brand Ambassador, and Event Manager and became more familiar with the internal aspects of the event industry. I worked for an event staffing agency as a Project Manager, shortly obtaining a promotion and becoming a Lead Project Manager. The more projects I took on, the more my confidence grew. I moved to Texas from NJ/NY while continuing to work remotely for a staffing agency. There was a wave of women and minorities who felt it was their time to get a piece of the pie and help elevate others. I started Recognition Model & Talent because I am a creative entrepreneur. Recognition Model & Talent is here to assist fellow artists along their journey of creativeness and paving their path.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During the pandemic, there were virtually no customers for months, and the business had not been open a full year before it had to pivot. Our agency picked up some essential resources and skills during the pandemic, which ultimately would help us grow. During the pandemic, we started additional services such as virtual assistants and learned the art of virtual networking.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Recognition Model & Talent is a nationwide event staffing agency. I’m one of the few African American women in the DFW area to run an event staffing agency. We specialize in staffing Promotional Models, Brand Ambassadors, Greeters, Hosts, and specialty talent for events and trade shows. The events we staff range from Coachella, Cannabis Expos, Investment Conferences, Luncheons, App activations, etc. I am most proud of the professionalism and diversity among our event talent. We pride ourselves on intimate one-on-one customer service experiences.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, Covid-19 taught me that if anything can go wrong, it will sometimes. We are resilient and will find a way to make things work and improve on the other side. My business plan had holes in it, I didn’t have a backup plan for a disaster, but quickly I found out it was okay. You can create one. I’ve always been hard on myself, trying to do everything correctly. Well, I’ve made many mistakes in life and with the business that helped me grow. And sometimes, things are beyond your control. Work hard and do your best, but know sometimes things will happen that no one could have predicted. If you go through life that way, failures become inevitable learning opportunities and victories.Covid-19 has also made my mom and me closer. We were already super tight, but it’s been a joy to start a podcast with her entitled the Bamgboshe Happy Hour. We chat about everything Pop Culture, movies, Tv, and Films.
