Conversations with Olivia Cole

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Cole.

Olivia Cole

Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always loved doing hair for as long as I can remember. I was a little girl who wouldn’t leave the house without having the most perfect curls. My birthday parties consisted of beauty stations where we would do hair, makeup, and all things beauty.

To say, it’s always been in my life is an understatement. I started Cosmetology school in August of 2021 and graduated eleven months later. Upon graduation, I was given the opportunity to assist the owner of a high-end salon in the Crossroad district of Kansas City. After six months of assisting, I started to take clients full-time and started to find my niche, which included blonding, extensions, and bridal hair.

Being my boss and creating my brand was always something I wanted to do, so I made the leap of faith and moved to a salon in my hometown where I could build my brand as a booth renter. I love being in my hometown, closer to family and friends, and continuing to grow my clientele while I never stop investing in my education and developing my skills.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
When anyone sits in my chair, I aim to provide them with an experience they will never forget. For me, transforming my client’s hair into something that makes them feel so beautiful and confident makes me feel so blessed, and it’s why I get up every day and do what I do.

In addition to that, it’s also my job to educate my clients on how to maintain healthy hair and how important a strong hair routine is. When they come back for their second and third appointment and see how much their hair has changed, it gives me such joy.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The biggest risk of my career was switching from a commission stylist in one part of the city and moving to a booth rent stylist in a completely different location. I was scared of making such a huge change so early in my career, but I knew that if I wanted to be my own boss, create my own brand, and grow my business, then I had to make some big changes.

I knew God had a plan for my life and that I had to learn to trust my gut no matter how uncomfortable it was. Great things in life never come from sitting in your comfort zone. I have loved every minute of growing my own business, connecting with so many people in my chair, and ultimately giving people the ability to feel beautiful.
