Conversations with Nataliia Herman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nataliia Herman.

Hi Nataliia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My professional story began long before I came to the USA.

Being a hairdresser and starting from scratch in a new place is not the first for me. During my 18 years of creative experience, I moved 4 times. The first time when I left my hometown with my son was in 2014 because of the war in Donbas, Ukraine.

At this moment, I already had a chair in Kiev. There I met my future husband. He is a native Missourian and has lived here all his life. A trip to Ukraine in 2016 was his first experience of long-distance travel. I have been living in the USA for 2.5 years now and am starting my career from scratch again.

The first year I waited for a green card to be able to start working, and then Covid happened. It was only last December I confirmed my diploma as a stylist and began to pave my way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I moved to the USA, I didn’t know anyone except my husband.

Therefore, I felt completely isolated and depressed, which was aggravated by Covid’s quarantine.

Since this is a new country, with a completely different mentality, I had to improve my level of English and learn to communicate with people. I have been studying American small talk philosophy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My entire hairdressing experience is based in a European school. For the last five years, I have been working in Kiev.

At a prestigious spa salon. Celebrities, politicians, athletes, and businessmen – working with them inspired and stimulated me to improve my skills constantly. Common work is not about me. My client is a woman who loves herself and is ready to invest her time to emphasize her personality.

My passion is hair coloring. And in order to be the best in this field, I flew to Moscow, where I studied in VS ACADEMY Vladimir Sarbashev which specializes in a new method of hair coloring known as AirTouch. Although in the USA this method is gaining popularity in Europe it has been booming for the last 3 years.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Keep trying, even if it’s scary.
