Conversations with Moka

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moka.

Hi Moka, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been an avid social media consumer and deeply creative, so I wanted to combine the two! I had a funny video go viral on TikTok a few years ago, which fueled my creative fire. I started posting reels on Instagram consistently, along with TikTok, to grow my audience and figure out what they liked. I just started posting my life, whether my outfits, music, or sense of humor. I started to resonate with an audience that enjoyed the same content as me; the rest is history. I wanted to build a platform to start releasing my music on, then realized that my audience was happy to see anything I did. I am so grateful that I built a social media presence as my authentic self. Aside from social media, I went to school for music composition and hope to write movie scores one day. I also have gotten back into dancing with the help and support of many friends after healing from a serious accident. I’m very thankful for my friends, family, and everyone who has supported me. My love goes out to you.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There are struggles when it comes to putting yourself online. I noticed that the more viral my videos got, the more they were subjected to getting hate comments. Of course, not everyone will like what you post on social media, but these hate comments directly targeted my appearance. Most of the hate comments I would get would be from adult men calling me every name in the book, but lucky for me, I have an incredibly thick skin, and I’m not one to shy away from a disagreement. The truth is, I didn’t care what they had to say, they weren’t my target audience, and I had no interest in them becoming a part of it. I also was amazed and happy to see my followers defend me when I did get these kinds of comments. I also admit that I have a little fun commenting back at my haters. I don’t think they ever expect me to respond, let alone have the humor and wit I do when talking back to them. If I could share any words of wisdom with any women posting themselves online, I would tell them never to take any hate comments to heart. These men are so miserable and bored with their lives, so much so that when they see women expressing themselves freely, they lash out with jealousy. Never let hate comments stop you from posting your authentic self online!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I want to think of myself as a jack of all trades. I have so many interests and hobbies that sticking to one niche is hard. I’m known for my music and my fashion style. I recently released a pop song titled 2030 that has gotten a very positive response. I can’t wait to start releasing more original music, as this was the first single I have ever released independently. You can find it on all streaming platforms! I’m also known for my fashion style and cosplays. I have worked with a few fashion brands, such as Kirsh Japan, Parade Underwear, Unzzystore, and a well-known brand named Zig Zag. You can use my discount code mokaaa_x for Parade Underwear and get 30% off their all-inclusive line! I’m most proud of a series on TikTok I did playing a horror video game. As random as that sounds, it’s my most viewed video series on any platform. I’m proud of it because I was my most authentic, ridiculous self, and I love making people laugh almost as much as I love creating music. I plan to stream more on Twitch and become a Twitch partner by the end of the year. What sets me apart from other creators is that no one else likes me. Many creators get caught up in “Who should I be online?” when there is room for everyone and every type of entertainment.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
I advise anyone wanting to become an influencer to be yourself! As cheesy as that sounds, no one else like you is on the planet. No one else has your ideas, and I promise if you start posting things you like, the right audience will find you. On the technical side, pay attention to trends and days you see the most engagement on your platform. Besides that, I would tell you that posting things just to “become famous” won’t get the audience you want. The Internet loves authenticity, so if you’re pretending to be someone else entirely to gain views, the Internet will know. Feel free to try something new and experiment with what you want to create. Nothing needs to be perfect to post it. Perfectionism is so draining, especially on Instagram, so take care of yourself and don’t be too critical of what you post.
