Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Silveira.
Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in central California on a small ranch, raising black Angus cattle and Boer goats that I exhibited alongside Quarter Horses. I fell in love with writing in the sixth grade, and I attended Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in agricultural communications. An internship turned career had me working in the livestock publication industry, but recently, I embarked on a new journey of being an independent author. I completed my first sires of contemporary romance books this year and have plans to keep writing. I also own and operate my own freelance company, Silver Lining Media, where I do photography, writing and design work for a variety of clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obviously moving far from home has been a struggle, as my family is an important part of my life, but when it comes to my freelance work and books, sometimes my confidence can be hard to manage. It takes a lot of strength to put a passion project out into the world, and while I love sharing my work with others, there are days where you don’t feel like you’re quite good enough. I’ve found encouragement in my faith and friends that have helped me through those moments of doubt.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As mentioned previously, with my freelance work, I get to touch a lot of projects, but I think I’m most proud of my photography and my newer work as an independently published author. When I spend time behind the camera, I love to push myself, to try and capture the image in a new and exciting way. Sometimes that’s all about the angle, other times its embracing candid photos or maybe I play with a sun flare.
As far as my books, I think my writing style is fairly unique. I like to truly dive into each character, to bring life to every moment and every emotion. A lot of my own personal life experiences or emotions served as loose inspiration for parts of these books, so there’s a lot of raw vulnerability in these stories.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think reading is really taking off as a hobby recently with things like “BookTok” being so influential on major social platforms. I love that people are falling in love with reading again, and I hope that only continues.
