Conversations with Mark Freeman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Freeman.

Hi Mark, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Mark Freeman is a self-promoted, self-taught, multifaceted abstract artist. Freeman exhibits an array of artistic styles, constantly experimenting and growing his creative techniques.

Freeman started successfully showing art in 2018 in galleries in Leawood and Overland Park Kansas. Freeman quickly shifted his art business from gallery representation to a direct model where he continues to enjoy growing success with original and fine art prints, as well as art home décor and art gifts.

Freeman continues to expand art sales through participation in local and regional art shows and exhibits, as well as through self-promoted pop-up art shows and corporate art events. In November 2025, Freeman opened Mark Freeman Fine Art Studio and Gallery in Downtown Overland Park.

Internally driven, and emotionally charged, Freeman’s original abstract art and mixed media paintings have been described as “passionate and expressive”. When viewing Freeman’s work, many viewers comment that they are seeing the works of several talented artists due to Freeman’s variety of styles. Freeman’s explosive abstract paintings are often driven by deep, personal meanings or spiritual statements.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Art and the business of art have been a challenging but rewarding journey and process. Freeman endured the impact of COVID on his early art endeavors, followed immediately by the cancer diagnosis of his wife and the four years of her chemotherapy, followed by his wife’s passing in 2024.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Mark Freeman is a contemporary artist based in Overland Park, KS, known for his expressive abstract compositions and bold use of color. Mark is inspired by the vibrant energy he senses in the world, in nature, and in his surroundings.

Mark is an abstractionist. His method of painting is based on spontaneity, energy, emotion, and instinct, with the application of marks and random forms of color, sometimes, but not always, congruent with deep meaning or subject matter. The goal of every painting is to evoke a response. “I never intend for them to sit quietly on a wall, going unnoticed,” says Freeman.

Mark is most proud of opening his own public studio and gallery where he works and conducts his art business.

Freeman’s work is bold, dynamic, and embraces color. Freeman’s work is a unique expression of love, passion, energy, and emotion.
