Conversations with Maddison Ogden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddison Ogden.

Hi Maddison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story starts with a little girl, maybe 5 years old, walking onto the stage at church unexpectedly as she sings a song to the audience. I never had a doubt in my mind that I was gonna be a rockstar and if you’d asked me that then I would’ve said exactly that. I grew up in chichi choir, then to school choir, then to School Of Rock!
Within my years at School Of Rock I was taught guitar and drums as well as the very important skill of being in a band.
I learned about team work, how to set up and tear down, and how to tour. I even got to tour the Midwest and perform main stage at Lollapalooza 2014 with Portugal. the Man!!
Some of my best memories are of my time with SOR.
Since then I have been a part of many bands and still like to perform with friends. I’ve spent the last few years creating and cultivating my current band Madd Honey! We have traveled all across the US performing for bars and even weddings! We love what we have created and continue to work hard on having a strong sound. As the front woman I also run the back of house business like booking, social media (with the help of my best friend Wes), and making sure we have a place to stay whenever we travel.
As a business woman and musician I’ve grown in so many ways and am so thankful to have created in all of these spaces.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I was diagnosed with Cortical dysplasia which is a form of epilepsy when I was 13 years old. I’ve struggled to be on stage my whole career and even have times where it has felt almost impossible to do my job. I became very vigilant about my sleep and my health ever since (with some bumps in the road).
I’ve also had falling outs with friends and bandmates that felt career ending at times. In the past 10 years I’ve been a part of things that I thought were going to be the biggest things I’d ever done, like The Voice.
While that never worked out and I’ve had to walk away from projects that severely affected my mental health, I feel that Madd Honey has risen above it all and made me become a stronger business owner and musician.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full time musician! I have my own music under the name MADDi and I am in a band called Madd Honey. We perform for bars/restaurants, outdoor venues, weddings, and private parties. I am the front woman and business owner of Madd Honey but the band works together and everyone has a job in running the business.
I am most proud of my current band Madd Honey and all we have achieved over our 2 1/2 years together. We have worked hard to get our name out there and to push ourselves to the next level. We’ve been performing for weddings all over the US and will continue to push even harder.
We set ourselves apart from others by being kind to whoever we meet and by taking every gig no matter how big or small.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
We use the app “Band” to schedule and communicate. I don’t use many apps for resources, I tend to find resources through friends and other musicians in my career.
